The Canadian Press

Bob and Matt are joined by Neil Greenberg to discuss Leafs/Capitals and how Mikhail Grabovski has fared this season and Troy Brown checks in to preview the Colts/Patriots Saturday night matchup.

Recap:

9:15 - Neil Greenberg, Washington Post, ESPN

The Leafs really lack puck possession, and that was apparent last year as well. Mikhail Grabovski has been used in more offensive situations than he was last year, and he’s given the Caps centre depth behind Nicklas Backstrom. He wasn’t utilized properly last year, and he’s flourished in a more offensive role.

10:00 - Troy Brown, 3 x Super Bowl Champion w/ New England, Comcast Sportsnet NFL Analyst

Could see early on that Tom Brady was going to be special, even in practice with Drew Bledsoe as the #1 QB. Andrew Luck’s weapons aren’t very potent, especially considering Reggie Wayne’s ACL injury, but he gets it done regardless. Rob Gronkowski’s injury is definitely a huge setback for the offence, as the way Brady’s been able to manage with what he was given certainly merits MVP consideration. They’ve had to continually reshape the offence, and Brady has done a masterful job.

The Canadian Press

Bob and Matt are joined by Mike Smith to talk about his inclusion on the Canadian Olympic team and Torry Holt and Greg Easterbrook check in to chat about the weekend’s playoff matchups and the Redskins hiring of Jay Gruden.

Recap:

10:00 - Mike Smith, Phoenix Coyotes/Team Canada Goaltender:

Smith was nervous when he got the call, glad to hear the good news and he was happy he had family present to share the good news with. He would never wish the other goaltenders injuries so he could play. Getting used to different angles with the larger ice takes time. Took about a period or so to get used to international ice size. Surprised his good friend St.Louis didn't make the Canadian Team. Glad hes not the guy who needs to make the decisions on the roster.

11:00 – Torry Holt, Future Pro Football Hall of Fame WR

Doesn’t blame Deion Branch for joining the Colts and giving them intel into the Patriots gameplans. When he left the Rams, he wouldn’t withhold any information. Seattle will have a package of plays designed for Percy Harvin, and it’s unrealistic to expect a large number of snaps in his first game back.

11:30 – Gregg Easterbrook, ESPN + The Atlantic, Author of “The King of Sports”

No former Head Coach who worked under Dan Snyder still is under employ in pro football, so he’s definitely a coach killer. It’s a big step in the right direction that the Chiefs and Eagles didn’t allow their concussed players back into the games on Sunday, and that’s something that wouldn’t have happened years ago.

The Canadian Press

Bob and Matt are joined by Jamal Mayers and Marc Crawford to break down Team Canada’s Olympic roster and discuss some of the most glaring omissions including Logan Couture and Claude Giroux.

Recap:

9:15 - Jamal Mayers, Longtime NHLer, NHL Network Analyst

Joe Thornton was a questionable omission, more so than Logan Couture. He has the resume for Hockey Canada, and has shown he can adapt on the big ice. Would have Toews as the captain over Crosby, he’s the captain on the team that’s won 2 Stanley Cups in the last 4 years, and has continually shown he’s one of the best leaders in the NHL.

10:00 - Marc Crawford, Longtime NHL Head Coach, Former Head Coach of the Canadian Olympic Team in 1998

Was definitely surprised that Giroux missed the team, he’s a dynamite player with great versatility. The ability to skate on a big ice surface is huge both offensively and defensively. Crawford is coaching in Switzerland, and the Canadian Olympic Announcement was a big deal over there as well, as on the team bus they were closely tracking the team.

The Canadian Press

Bob and Matt chat about Randy Carlyle’s treatment of Nazem Kadri with Dave Feschuk and Anthony Becht and Dave Sims join the show to discuss Andrew Luck’s resilience and another season-ending disappointment for the Bengals.

Recap:

9:15 - Dave Feschuk, Toronto Star:

Randy Carlyle is coaching millionaires who are making guaranteed money, and that’s not easy, but he seems to be treating them like numbers and dollar bills. 24/7 gave us an inkling into the mind of Randy Carlyle, and it seems pretty clear that’s he’s not one to mince words. Would not keep Kyle Lowry past the trade deadline, but the Raptors are a confusing team, as what you’re seeing on the floor right now is tantalizing.

10:00 - Anthony Becht, Longtime NFL Tight End + NFL Analyst for PFT on NBC

Andrew Luck’s resiliency was pretty amazing to watch this weekend, and for him to do it at such a young age is truly remarkable. Winning and losing games is often made up of a few plays over the course of a day, and the Micah Hyde INT drop was a big one that could’ve really altered the course for the Packers.

11:30 - Dave Sims, NFL on Westwood One

You can’t hang the Bengals loss on Marvin Lewis, Dalton made many bad decisions, and it’s too easy to lay blame on the coach when the QB is to blame. New Orleans needs to slow Marshawn Lynch, that’s their number one issue. The Saints D might be able to hang with Russell Wilson, but stopping the run is a huge deed for the Saints D.

The Canadian Press

Bob and Matt discuss Team Canada’s Olympic roster with Gary Lawless and Mark Madden and debate some of the names that appear to be on the bubble.

Recap:

10:00 - Gary Lawless, Winnipeg Free Press, TSN 1290

Subban being left off would be a national crisis in the province of Quebec, and frankly, he’s deserving of being on the team. Kunitz should be a slam dunk, he’s consistently showed that he’s able to play with good players, even beyond Sidney Crosby. Marty St. Louis deserves to be on this team as well.

10:30 - Mark Madden, WXDX Pittsburgh

Kunitz and Neal should be no brainers for Team Canada, and Rick Nash should not even be considered. Crosby should absolutely be the Captain of Team Canada.
