Recap:

12:35pm Jonas Siegel – Leafs Beat Reporter

Siegel said Carlyle usually doesn't talk about his goalies before games, he feels comfortable with Bernier and he has a good history against Nashville. He said that he thinks both goalies will remain with the team past this season, Reimer is a restricted free agent so he doesn't have much control on his situation. Siegel doesn't know who the Leafs will send down when Bozak comes back, Trevor Smith has played well but it doesn't make sense to stay as a 4th liner when Bozak returns.

1:05pm Ray Ferraro – TSN Hockey Analyst

Ferraro thinks Ottawa's defense doesn't move the puck very well, they turn the puck over too much and it looks like they’re missing Gonchar. Ottawa is a team that has underachieved in every area, Anderson hasn't looked very good and looks slow in net. Sens games haven't been selling out and there isn't a major draw to bring people to the arena. On Seth Jones, Ferraro said he has played remarkably well for a rookie, he could see him in the mix for the 7th or 8th spot on the Canadian Olympic roster. As for the Leafs, Ferraro thinks Trevor Smith would get the first shot at getting a lineup spot, especially with him having to clear waivers if they send him down. Ferraro spoke spoke about the Jets and how they could have had some fun with the helmet promotion but he understands the safety concerns the Jets have.

2:15pm Dave Zirin – Edge of Sports

Zirin said that A-Rod is absolutely right and Major League Baseball’s decision to suspend him is a farce. Bud Selig cares about his legacy and if he can get rid of ARod his legacy will be as the person who led the clean up of baseball. A-Rod is going to need the full support of the players union and will need to be able to prove that he is innocent. Zirin noted the case against Jameis Winston will definitely hurt his Heisman chances, but assuming he is not arrested Florida State should have a chance at the national title. Zirin said Manziel is his choice for Heisman and the case with Winston really puts in perspective how minor Manziel’s antics have been.

2:35pm Trent Dilfer – ESPN NFL Analyst

Dilfer addressed the Santana Moss comments directed at RGIII and said a leader shouldn't have to explain himself all the time. There is no denying RGIII's talent but there is concern that he feels the need to add color to his comments, always trying to interject himself in every situation. A true leader doesn't need to explain himself which is what Moss meant but he will likely back track his comments to not cause an issue. Dilfer said that defensive players hesitate now because of the tough rules on them which leads to a lot of the missed tackles and players hesitating when trying to hit other players. Dilfer said he sympathizes with the officials and he has spoken to some of them and they are frustrated by the new rules. Dilfer also addressed Jerry Jones deciding to support Jason Garrett right before a big game against the Giants. He doesn’t understand his decision making most of the times… he’s always trying to inject himself in the news and put himself in the spotlight.

3:05pm Jerry Rice – NFL Hall of Famer

Rice said when he came into the NFL he felt like he needed to work hard and earn respect especially coming from such a small school. He said that both Young and Montana were like generals on the football field, Montana didn't have a strong arm but knew the offense and knew which spots to pick. Young had a much stronger arm and was more mobile and he ended up with more TD catches from Young than Montana. On the Santana Moss comments, Rice said that once you start pointing figures there are going to be problems in the locker room. He said would have loved to play in this era with so many teams throwing the ball more often. Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady are just some of the QB's he would love to play with now. On Calvin Johnson Rice said to let him play out his career and if he breaks his records he would be the first to congratulate Johnson.

3:35pm Nick Wiggins – Wichita State Guard / Andrew Wiggins' Older Brother

On growing up in Toronto, Wiggins said there were a lot of players who wanted to make it to the NBA and there was a good basketball vide in town. He followed the Raptors and still does and said Vince Carter was his favorite player. He didn't feel any pressure from his parents being great athletes. Wiggins said that he went to high school in the US to get more exposure and Andrew had already wanted to do the same even when he was younger. Andrew was always good growing up, they never expected him to be so good so quickly. Wiggins noted that it would mean a lot for Toronto if Andrew would get drafted by them, and he also hopes to try and make it in the NBA. When asked who would win a 1 on 1 against his brother Andrew, he said it’s usually pretty even.

Hour 1 (The Bryan Hayes Show):

Bryan talks Josh Johnson and looks around the NFL with Mike Florio. Hour 2 Audio

Hour 2 (The Bryan Hayes Show):

Bryan is joined by ESPN baseball's Jerry Crasnick and James Duthie. Hour 2 Audio

Recap:

1:05pm Ray Ferraro – TSN Hockey Analyst

Ferraro said he doesn't think Mason Raymond can have a 25 goal season, he’s a 20 goal guy at most but not someone who's worth paying $4 million to. Ferraro thinks if the Leafs have interest in Braydon Schenn it would be for a centre, he plays the wing for Philly but is a natural centre. Ferraro noted that there are a lot of good teams, the cap system robs you of great teams and creates good teams. This is why the league likes that cap system because of how much more competitive it makes the league. Ferraro said that it’s important to the Leafs to have Clarkson playing well and doing more than just chipping in, he’s got to play well and his game should start rounding into something more consistent.

1:35pm Mason Raymond – Leafs forward

The guys started talking about mullets in the league and who has had the best mullets in NHL history. Raymond said the pressure he feels is the pressure he puts on himself, if you play well everything will work itself out. On the Leafs center situation, as a pro you learn to play with different people but there is some adjustment with a new centre and he is excited to have Kadri back in the fold. Raymond thinks the crowd's at the ACC have been impressive and he noted in the East you don't spend as much time on the road, 1 day road trips are common which is the major difference from playing in the West.

2:35pm Mike Florio – Pro Football Talk / NBC Sports

Florio said the NFL has done a poor job of defending what he believes was the right call at first and he believes the Patriots were jobbed but he doesn't think the ball was catch able and the league should have explained that right from the beginning. When something like that happens at the end of a prime time game like that, the league needs to react immediately and explain why the decision was made. On the Moss-RGIII situation, Florio said a quarterback needs to be a guy who will take the blame if he wants to be the leader of his team. For Moss to say what he did about RGIII he must be at his breaking point. Florio thinks Cam Newton is doing the things he needs to do to win games and he's not sulking when things don't go his way. We expect QB's to be as good as they ll be right from their first game in the NFL, we are seeing Newton mature and RGIII needs to do the same.

3:05pm Jerry Crasnick – ESPN Baseball

Crasnick said front office executives used to be the ones who use to leak info, now both sides are tight with the info they leak. Crasnick noted that Anthopoulos likes to keep things quiet, he probably feels that nothing good can come from it so it’s hard to get a read as to what they are involved in. He 's always going to try and be involved in everything but only a fraction of those things will work out. Crasnick thinks San Diego is a good place for Johnson to go, their park is pitcher friendly and the coaching staff is well respected. Teams are always looking for value and teams are more willing to give a short deal to someone like Johnson and hope things work out.

3:35pm James Duthie – NHL on TSN Host

After showing off his karaoke skills, Duthie spoke about the Ovechkin/Crosby rivalry and how it wasn't really a real rivalry, it was mostly created by the media but despite how it has died down its still a good match up. The Metropolitan division has started to come together, a lot of the teams were off to slow starts. There has been talk from GM's getting rid of the wild card sports and going back to 4 teams from each conference in the playoffs. Duthie said he doesn't like the idea of getting rid of the wildcard especially since they haven't even evaluated how it works out this year.

12:30 - Jonas Siegel – TSN 1050 Leafs Reporter

Jonas checks in to discuss the Leafs through the quarter-point of the season thus far, including the goaltending which has shined to this point with the tandem of Jonathan Bernier and James Reimer. Jonas and the guys also get into the continuing issues with the defense corps, and Phil Kessel’s scoring drought.

2:30 - Milos Raonic - Canadian Tennis Star

Milos joins Bryan during the Hayes Show to talk about his charity event, the 2nd annual Raonic Race for Kids fundraiser, his game and his feelings on being in conversation for the Lou Marsh Award. 3:00 - Richard Griffin – Toronto Star Baseball Columnist

Rich joins the show ahead of what will be a crucial offseason for Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos, and discusses how the Jays will approach this offseason after spending so much last year and not seeing results. Some of the big money players will likely scare the Jays off because of how they were burned last year on Melky Cabrera's signing, which might deter them from going for players to try and win now. Rich discusses if AA is on the hot seat after making such bold moves last year, and what to expect from last year's players heading into the new season.

3:30 - Alex Marvez - Fox Sports 1

Alex joins the show to discuss last night's controversial finish in Monday Night Football and what was a classic Bill Belichick press conference. The way other officials have reacted after the fact makes the play even more controversial, and the fact that a flag was actually thrown on the play made it much more of an issue. Alex also gets into the struggling 49ers and whether or not they'll make the playoffs with a slightly easier schedule the rest of the way, and the possibility of the Giants winning the NFC East despite that Eli Manning still isn't on the same page as his receivers.

Hour 2 (The Bryan Hayes Show):

Bryan is joined by ESPN UFC Anaylst and Writer Brett Okamoto and Colour Analyst for the Leafs Jim Ralph.

Recap:

12:35pm – Dave Poulin - Leafs Assistant GM

Poulin joined the guys to talk about the team’s play thus far this season after the Leafs have hit the 20 game mark. Poulin said that the team has yet to play one complete game this season but from the stretches of good play he’s seen he added that the best is still to come. Poulin weighed in on the goaltending situation and said that if the team continues to play as they are he’s happy with either goalie playing. Poulin talked about how they’ve used Morgan Rielly and said he has handled being a healthy scratch like a pro. He also said the Holland trade was not strictly a move made because of injuries and that the Leafs had their eye on Holland for quite some time.

1:05pm – Ray Ferraro TSN Hockey Analyst

Ferraro commented on the Edmonton Oilers effort this season and said that the team has no consistency of effort at all let alone with regard to their wins. He mentioned he was surprised that McLaren and Scott didn’t go at it over the weekend and also remarked that players like John Scott are useless and will be fazed out of the game and replaced by guys that can fill important roles.

2:20pm - Geoff Mosher - Comcast Philly.com

Mosher talked about the Eagles improved play over the last few weeks and noted that Nick Foles has really come into his own as a starter and has stepped up and played great without throwing any interceptions. Mosher also pointed out that Philadelphia’s defense has been a big reason why the team has really bounced back into relevancy holding opponents to 21 or less points over the last few weeks.

2:37pm - Adam Jahns - Chicago Sun Times

Jahns discussed the Chicago Bears play of late and how Josh McCown has been very impressive filling in for Jay Cutler and is causing a lot of doubts about Cutler’s future with the team. Jahns also mentioned that McCown doesn’t look like a back up and hasn’t been turning the ball over either. He did mention however that while McCown does manage the offense well, Cutler is the guy that can really make them an elite offensive team in the league.

2:43pm – Steve Reed - N.C. Associated Press

Reed spoke about the Panthers big game tonight against the Patriots and said this game is huge for the Panthers in terms of where people view them and rank them in the league. He believe it’s their biggest game since the 2008 playoffs. Reed added that Newton needs to put some points on the board and that he’ll likely run more tonight something that he has not done as much of this season.

3:05pm – Brett Okamoto (ESPN UFC Analyst/Writer)

Okamoto spoke about GSP’s controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks. Okamoto thinks GSP came into the fight ready but knew he would step away from fighting for a little while regardless of the result. He added that while he doesn’t think Hendricks clearly won the fight, he was disappointed that GSP was announced as the winner. Okamoto also commented on some of Dana White’s remarks post-fight saying that he didn’t come across as a very caring promoter and that this is basically the worst case scenario for Georges to leave the company, after a controversial fight.

3:37pm - Jim Ralph – Maple Leafs Radio Colour Analyst

Ralph commented on Clarkson’s play so far and said that if he were making far less money and put out the same production people wouldn’t have a problem but his big contract brought big expectations. Ralph said that Clarkson has to get back to the mentality of scoring ugly goals in front of the net to bust out of the slump he’s in. Ralph also said that he’s never been more critical of a team winning games than he has of the Leafs this season and thinks that people need to adjust their expectations of the team.
