7:15 Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC Analyst

It was another high scoring affair for the Penguins who were in Philadelphia last night. What we learned yesterday is that; both teams have goaltending issues, James Neal continues to let Scott Hartnell get under his skin, Chris Kunitz is having a great year, & these two teams really don't like each other. The Leafs should be encouraged with their 4-2 loss vs. the Boston Bruins. Even though they lost, the Leafs showed some "push back" & their play improved drastically during the second half of the game. The Bruins are one of the few teams with four solid scoring lines making them an incredibly lethal team. The Montreal Canadiens were very lucky to escape Carolina with a win. They only played hard for 40 minutes & goaltender Carey Price had to stand on his head in order to get the win. New York Rangers forward Rick Nash has been hit & miss this year, but has stepped up after returning from a four game absence due to a suspected concussion. The Rangers played a fantastic game last night vs. the Islanders & hopefully can use this as a turning point in the season. The NHL's realignment proposal is great for Toronto, Montreal, New York Rangers, Boston, Detroit, & especially Columbus (which could be ready to turn the corner) Congrats to the league for finally making this long overdue move. Until the Edmonton Oilers learn how to play defense/establish a better transition game they will continue to be terrible.

7:45 Leafs Breakfast: Darren Dreger & Steve Simmons

The Leafs defensive woes were painfully obvious during the first half of last night's loss vs. the Bruins however, they did seem to regroup & play better towards the second half of the game. Some of these defensive miscues are the byproduct of "young defenseman learning on the job." Jake Gardiner (one of the Leafs top defenseman last year) has recovered from a concussion but continues to remain with the Marlies until Leafs management moves one of their defenseman. Gardiner playing in the minors will not hinder his development, but hopefully he gets a chance to return to the Leafs lineup in the near future. Tyler Seguin is having a lousy year but always seems to raise his game whenever he plays Toronto (10 goals vs. the Leafs). Pittsburgh @ Philadelphia was another barn burner filled with awful goaltending, thus Toronto should expect a far more determined Pittsburgh squad on Saturday. Ben Scrivens has been a pleasant surprise this season, but goaltending will continue to be a hot button topic especially if/when the Leafs make the playoffs.

8:15 James Duthie – Host "NHL on TSN"

The Canucks appear to be missing "something offensively" this season. Kesler has been injured for the bulk of the season, their goaltending has regressed over the past few games, & the team appears to be "missing that extra gear." The Chicago Blackhawks could be in tough tonight vs. the Colorado Avalanche especially with the absence of versatile forward Patrick Sharp. The bottom line is that the Blackhawks have to lose eventually….stay tuned. Both games that Toronto has played vs. Boston have been close, but have also shown that "the Leafs aren't quite there yet."

8:30 Bob Weeks – Score Golf

The WGC-Cadillac Championship can be viewed as a "tune up" for Augusta. This is one of those events where there are no cuts, a smaller field, a guaranteed purse, & 49/50 golfers in the world take part in this tournament. Rory McIIroy is extremely well liked amongst his peers & appears to have gotten a pass for his "tooth debacle." Phil "Lefty" Mickelson has been playing very well & has worked really hard on his putting. Keegan Bradley has been very consistent over the past 6-7 months & all the tools to win a major. Bradley could be a worthwhile player to "keep an eye on" over the course of the season. Brandt Snedeker is still working on getting back to 100% health & is focused on winning a major championship this year. Snedeker is working on healing his ribs & is practising some light chipping/putting in order to stay in game shape. Graham DeLaet is playing at the Opposite Field Event in Puerto Rico & along with David Hearn & Brad Fritsch who could all be poised to "make some noise" at this tournament. Sergio Garcia seems to have taken a less aggressive approach over the past 3-4 years, but still has immense talent & reform to his more freewheeling style of play. Garcia has a habit of over thinking things whenever he plays in a major, if he can avoid this he could enjoy a career rebirth.

Recap:

6:30 Scott MacArthur – Blue Jays Reporter

At this point Blue Jays management is taking a "wait & see approach" with regards to Brett Lawrie's injury. Injuries are always a risk/concern whenever a player decides to suit up for the World Baseball Classic. The Jays have decided to err on the side of caution with regards to players dealing with nagging injuries (Brett Lawrie, Sergio Santos, Colby Rasmus, & Casey Janssen) Major League Baseball is really trying to increase the amount of exposure/excitement surrounding the World Baseball Classic, with the ultimate goal of "growing the game on a global stage." At this point Casey Janssen looks highly doubtful to be the Jays closer on opening day. Sergio Santos is expected to pitch this Saturday and had an MRI after experiencing some pain on his triceps last Sunday. Santos said that the injury is nothing too serious at this point, and is taking all the necessary precautions to avoid any further setbacks. If the Jays have to start the season with Steve Delabar as the opening day closer, it's not the end of the world.

7:15 Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC Analyst

The Chicago Blackhawks "have a calm sense of professionalism & understanding of what they have to do to win as a group." This is a stark contrast from previous seasons where players would get frustrated when the team would struggle. The Chicago Blackhawks should be congratulated for pulling out the win last night vs. Colorado despite the loss of impact players such as Marian Hossa & Patrick Sharp. The only reason Daniel Carcillo was on the ice during the final minutes of last night's game was because of injury. Kudos to Carcillo for taking advantage of a golden opportunity, scoring the game winning goal, and pushing the Hawks point streak to 24 games. The Maple Leafs right now are in the thick of the playoff hunt & for the most part have been able to avoid playing two bad games in a row. However, James Reimer will have to be much better tonight if the Leafs want to escape Boston with a win. Other positives for the Leafs include the fact that Phil Kessel is starting to heat up, Tyler Bozak has been a stabilizing presence, & Nazem Kadri appears to have taken the next step in his development. It's hard not to get excited if you're a Leafs fan, given that the team hasn't made the playoffs since 2004. Even though the Calgary Flames beat the San Jose Sharks last night, it's a little too early to get excited if you're a flames fan. The Sharks were dead tired & were coming off a difficult road trip vs. Vancouver the previous night, so don't put too much stock into last night's win. This Calgary team really lacks prospects right now & GM Jay Feaster will eventually have to make a decision on the future of Captain Jarome Iginla.

7:30 Jamie Dawick & The Toronto Rock Cheerleaders (In-Studio)

Fun chat with Toronto Rock owner Jamie Dawick & the beautiful Toronto Rock cheerleaders.

7:45 Leafs Breakfast: Darren Dreger – NHL Analyst

Randy Carlyle has done a great job of curbing the enthusiasm that is quickly spreading throughout the city of Toronto. The Leafs played a decimated Ottawa Senators club last night, & barely escaped with a win. If the Leafs don't play better defensively, stop turning the puck over, & blowing 2 goal leads, they will have problems when they face the elite teams in the East such as Pittsburgh & Boston. Like any team in the NHL, the Maple Leafs have had their share of positives & negatives this season. Some of the positives include the contributions of the #1 line, Nazem Kadri's 6 game point streak, & improved play on home ice. Some of the negatives include Nazem Kadri's turnovers, Phil Kessel's defensive struggles, etc… There is no question the Leafs are a much harder team to play against this year, but still have a long ways to go if they want to make a legitimate playoff push during the second half of the season.

Recap:

6:15 Aaron Ward – NHL on TSN

It's hard to determine if the Carolina Hurricanes will be able to maintain their position in the "Top 8" without the services of Cam Ward for the next 6-8 weeks. Thankfully the Hurricanes do have some quality backup goaltenders available in Dan Ellis & Justin Peters. Carolina's defense is finally starting to get healthy (Joni Pitkanen, Tim Gleason, Jamie McBain) & their offense is starting to heat up (Jiri Tlusty, Alexander Semin, Eric & Jordan Staal) The Hurricanes also have the benefit of playing in a rather weak South East division where there is no clear cut favourite. The Chicago Blackhawks are the epitome of the word "team." The Blackhawks have the luxury of being able to evenly distribute minutes amongst four lines & three defensive pairings. Crawford/Emery have exceeded expectations thus far & have dismissed any lingering questions regarding Chicago's goaltending situation. For the most part Randy Carlyle has done a great job of keeping the Leafs focused & avoiding the "let down" games as much as possible. This team is starting to find its stride & it should be interesting to see who steps up to replace the recently departed Mike Brown. The playoffs are starting to look like a remote possibility….

7:15 Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC Analyst

The Washington Capitals still have a shot at the playoffs (7-3 in their last 10) However the Capitals have little margin for error due to their horrendous start. The Mike Ribeiro goal really seemed to turn the tide in Washington's favour last night vs. Boston ultimately winning 4-3 in overtime. The biggest problem with the Capitals seems to be the fact that their captain Alexander Ovechkin "seems to have lost a step." The Chicago Blackhawks are firing on all cylinders right now & are clearly the class of the NHL at the halfway point. One word to sum this team: quick. Joel Quenneville & assistant coaches Mike Kitchen & Jamie Kompon deserve plenty of credit for the remarkable job they are doing in Chicago. The Rangers win last night vs. the Flyers was huge & can be largely attributed to the magnificent play of Captain Ryan Callahan, especially with the loss of #1 center Brad Richards. The Marc Staal "eye incident" last night once again proved that all NHL players should wear mandatory eye protection.

7:45 Leafs Breakfast: Darren Dreger – NHL Analyst

The "Battle of Ontario" has subsided quite a bit in recent years primarily due to the fact that both sides have lost lots of key players. Plenty of potential names on the trading block (Carl Gunnarsson, Phil Kessel, Tyler Bozak, Clarke MacArthur, Mike Komisarek, John-Michael Liles, etc…) Toronto is in a really good position right now & doesn't want to make any moves that will jeopardize any team chemistry. Ideally the Leafs would be able to turn two depth guys into a top 3 defenseman to take some pressure off Dion Phaneuf. Nazem Kadri, Tyler Bozak, & a 2nd rounder for Roberto Luongo doesn't sound like such a good deal anymore….

8:15 Darren Rovell – ESPN Sports Business Reporter

It's been a crazy season for College Basketball because there isn't one dominant team that stands apart from the rest. The good thing about college sports is that "the stability is based on what's on the front of the jersey, as opposed to what's on the back of the jersey." This makes it tough to establish any sustainable success unless you are able to continuously reload every year with the latest & greatest freshman.

8:30 Dean Brown – Team 1200

The "Battle of Ontario" hasn't died down for those who have fond memories from the Tucker/Corson years. However both teams haven't met in the playoffs in the last nine years & many of the key figures have changed teams/retired. Paul MacLean has done a remarkable job behind the bench, especially when you consider the countless amounts of injuries the Senators have faced this season. The Senators will eventually have to make a decision between Bishop/Lehner, therefore expect one of them to be moved by the time next season rolls around.

Recap:

6:30 Scott MacArthur – Blue Jays Reporter

Jose Reyes could potentially be the most exciting all-round player on the Blue Jays roster this season. Reyes is a guy who can give you 10-15 home runs, 170-200 hits, steal 40-50 bases, & provide electric defense at shortstop. No question Reyes is the real deal however; his reoccurring hamstring issues could be an area of concern. The bottom line is Jose Reyes is the best short stop the Jays have had since Tony Fernandez. Mark DeRosa could have a larger role with the Jays (mentor/teacher for Brett Lawrie, & first option at third base when Lawrie needs a rest) DeRosa's job is to primarily serve as a calming influence & provide leadership to a relatively young ballclub. Brett Cecil hasn't looked that good in training camp & could be waived if he fails to make the team. J.A. Happ is expected to start the season at Buffalo as the #1 ace & could see time with the big club if anything happens to any of the five starting pitchers.

7:15 Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC Analyst

When Pittsburgh has Malkin & Crosby playing the way they did last night look out! Tampa Bay is in real trouble & faces a hungry New Jersey Devils squad coming off a loss vs. the Maple Leafs. Losing 5 games in a row is absolutely unacceptable; if the Lightning lose tonight they could be in serious danger of missing the playoffs. Nazem Kadri is brimming with confidence right now & could quickly become "a very dominant offensive player" in this league. Let's face it the Leafs have been starving for a superstar pretty much since the departure of Mats Sundin in 2008. Randy Carlyle has done a great job of managing expectations & has experience working with a wide variety of players in Anaheim. Dave Nonis has managed expectations in a major hockey market in Vancouver, put them together & it's easy to see why Mr. Kadri is experiencing a phenomenal level of success. Patrick Kaleta's 5 game suspension was not enough. This was a foolish play that never should have occurred in the first place. Thankfully Brad Richards got up from the hit & appears to be ok.

7:45 Leafs Breakfast: Darren Dreger – NHL Insider

Dave Nonis & Randy Carlyle's message regarding Nazem Kadri: he's been great, but let's just relax & let him develop at his own pace. This year Leaf fans have had the privilege of witnessing the offensive creativity that is Nazem Kadri. Skilled players have a way of "finding the puck" in the most opportune times. There is a level of luck that goes along with this, but we should credit Kadri for embracing the challenge presented by Toronto Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins earlier on this year. Mike Brown was extremely popular in the Leafs dressing room because he's a highly accountable player. While Brown is not a true enforcer, he is defensively solid, skates well, finished his checks, & stands up for his teammates. Lots of teams were interested in the services of Mr. Brown & GM Dave Nonis felt that a potential 3rd rounder from Edmonton was simply too much to pass up. Another player to keep an eye regarding player movement could be Leafs forward Clarke MacArthur. If MacArthur continues his level of play this season he could be a hot commodity on April 3rd when the trade deadline rolls around. Patrick Kaleta's 5 game suspension was appropriate. Brendan Shanahan & company did their due diligence however; the suspension could have been more severe if Brad Richards had been injured on the play.

8:00 Steve Simmons – The Reporters / Sun Media

Interesting debate regarding who will have a better career in Toronto: Nazem Kadri or Brett Lawrie? Right now Kadri is the more popular athlete, but if you look at the bigger picture Brett Lawrie might be the safer answer. Kadri is exceeding expectations at this point in the season, but Brett Lawrie appears to have more long-term potential. In Toronto the sports hierarchy goes Maple Leafs #1….then everything else. The Blue Jays have an inherent pressure to be good right away. Remember Toronto is a town "that can turn on you in a hurry." The Tampa Bay Lightning appear to be in complete disarray right now. After last night's loss vs. Pittsburgh it is quite obvious that Guy Boucher is really on the hot seat. Further complicating matters is the fact that Tampa Bay has several intriguing options at their disposal (John Cooper, Lindy Ruff, etc…) The Edmonton Oilers will continue to struggle until one player is ready to emerge, because they are the lowest scoring team in the NHL at even strength. Several players have had their moments (Nugent-Hopkins, Hall, Eberle, etc…) but all of the aforementioned are still searching to establish a sense of consistency. Let's also take time to give a quick shout out to the Chicago Blackhawks!

8:15 Jack Armstrong – NBA on TSN

Last night's game was the 14th time the Raptors have lost a game when leading heading into the 4th quarter. This is an incredibly disturbing stat & proves once again that the Raptors are still a long ways away from "learning how to close out games." It will be interesting to see if the Raptors can generate some momentum heading into the off-season. The Raptors are probably "2-3 moves away" from becoming a team that can compete for a top 8 spot in the Eastern Conference. The biggest question is where Raptors management will keep the tandem of Colangelo/Casey together long enough so that both men can witness the fruits of their labour.

Fascinating conversation about the dangers/warning signs of concussions & how they impact the brain.

6:30 Jonas Siegel – Maple Leafs Reporter

This three day break could be exactly what the Leafs needed in order to establish some consistency as we approach the second half of the season. One of the more pleasant surprises during this season has been the Leafs goaltending/ improved defensive play. These two factors usually go hand in hand, because a better defensive team typically leads to better goaltending. Mike Komisarek & John-Michael Liles have done a great job of adopting the "good soldier" mentality with regards to dwindling ice time. However make no mistake both players "don't want to just be a "passenger along for the ride." The New Jersey Devils come into this game have lost four in a row & have really struggled in the absence of Martin Brodeur. Backup goaltender Johan Hedberg is expected to get the start tonight. If Matt Frattin is ready to play tonight (went through his first full practice yesterday) he could wind up skating alongside leading scorer Nazem Kadri because both players have displayed tremendous amounts of chemistry with each other. Randy Carlyle & company will have some tough decisions to make in the next few weeks as more healthy bodies start to return to the lineup.

7:15 Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC Analyst

Yesterday's Chicago @ Detroit game was an instant classic (the energy, pace, scoring chances, hard hits, goaltending,) The Chicago Blackhawks are probably the most balanced team in the NHL right now, but this could change if the Hawks were to sustain any significant injuries. Claude Julien's "embellishment comments" do have some weight to them the bottom line is that "if you make the penalty harsh enough players will stop doing it." Expect the coaches' challenge, hits from behind, & embellishment to be hot topics during the GM meetings in the near future. Patrick Kaleta's hit on Brad Richards was absolutely unacceptable. Richards is very lucky that his neck wasn't' broken, Kaleta should expect to get a phone call from the NHL sometime soon. Tampa Bay is in a serious world of hurt right now & travel to Pittsburgh to face a determined Penguins team followed by a gritty New Jersey Devils squad the next night. The Lightning have really struggled on the road & head Coach Guy Boucher could be on thin ice (enter Lindy Ruff?) The Edmonton Oilers will continue to struggle until they decide to invest in defense. Case in point the Oilers were outshot 18-0 in the second period last night vs. Minnesota.

7:45 Leafs Breakfast: Darren Dreger & Jim Ralph

It's unfortunate that we won't get to see Martin Brodeur starting in goal tonight vs. the Maple Leafs because when you're watching Brodeur "you're literally watching a legend." What makes Brodeur so special is his unique style of goaltending "he's the type of player that wants to stop everything." The Leafs will have to take advantage of this three day break, especially in a shortened season. The New Jersey Devils are a defensively oriented team, as long as they can stay healthy "they will be a threat in the Eastern Conference." Mike Komisarek & John-Michael Liles have been extremely professionally with regards to their reduced ice-time, & one or both could be moved closer to the April 3rd trade deadline.

8:00 Bob Weeks – Score Golf

Michael Thompson's win @ the Honda Classic "kind of came out of nowhere." However Thompson has shown flashes of brilliance in the past (finished tied for 2nd at the U.S. Open last year). Should be interesting to see what Rory McIIroy has to say on Wednesday regarding the whole "wisdom tooth debacle." Either way McIIroy should get a pass, due to the fact that he has been pretty honest so far in his career. Graham DeLaet played very well (9th place finish) & "really wants to win right now" as witnessed by his aggressive style of play. DeLaet has all the tools to be successful but just needs a bit more experience to refine his game. Tiger Woods has a sub par performance at the Honda Classic & struggled with consistency. Woods will have to keep working hard in order to make sure he is in form for Augusta.

8:30 Mark Zecchino – Host "Golf Talk Canada"

Broadcasting live at the Toronto Gold Show with TSN Radio tomorrow. This Toronto show has made immense progress/strides compared to four-five years ago. The anchored putting conundrum just won't seem to go away. The USGA & RNA have proposed a rule that would kick in January 2016 where "golfers would no longer be able to anchor the putter to your body, the club should be able to swing freely/separately from the body." The biggest problem is that it's difficult to make this kind of change thirty years down the road after initially allowing the use of belly putters. Most people on Team Canada feel that Graham DeLaet has the most "natural raw talent" on the tour.

8:30 Matt Loughlin – Devils Radio Voice

The "dead puck" era started during the 1995 season when the Devils swept Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals. The Devils finally removed this stigma last year with an impressive run to the finals where they seem to embrace a more wide open style of play. IIlya Kovalchuk has worked hard on becoming a more complete player by sacrificing individual statistics for the good of the team. Martin Brodeur has been a joy to watch all these years & still continues to amaze twenty plus years later. Hopefully Brodeur returns to the lineup Thursday vs. Buffalo. David Clarkson appears to have cooled off after a bit of a hot start, perhaps thirty goals a season is a little too much to as every year? However he is not the only Devils who is struggling (Travis Zajac, Patrik Elias, to name a few).

8:45 Jeremy Hotz – Comedian
