Recap:

Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC

Pierre says you just have to move past the Dallas loss for the Maple Leafs because of the quick turnaround in Winnipeg. It is a long season and you have bad games from time to time. Pierre says Cory Schneider will challenge Ben Bishop for the U.S. third goalie spot but people make too big a deal of the third goalie because they won’t play. Pierre talked about the Penguins win over the Islanders and he talked about Sidney Crosby dominating them offensively. Pierre talked about Columbus being red hot after winning 8 games in a row who play a very fun style of hockey and their best players are contributing. Pierre says there has been local buzz for the Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium because the Devils and Islanders will play the Rangers. Pierre is excited to see Dodger Stadium host a hockey game. Pierre talked about how special a player and how successful Steven Stamkos have been throughout his life.

Leafs Breakfast w/Darren Dreger

Darren found humour called Randy Carlyle’s postgame comment of the terrible Leafs loss as a “Thud”. Darren says the Leafs coach staff will have to earn their money that the team is mentally prepared to move past such a bad loss in Dallas. Darren talked about the gritty style of the Stars. Darren says the Leafs should go back to Bernier in Winnipeg to right the ship. Darren says the NHL may rethink how many outdoor games they will put on during the regular season. The stadium series is not selling well in L.A. and New York.

Todd Warriner – Former Toronto Maple Leaf

Todd talked about the Baycrest Outdoor Game and fundraiser. Todd talked about the Winter Classic alumni game at Comerica Park in Detroit and what a great time it was to play with some of the legends in the game. Todd talked about his playing time over in Germany after his NHL career. Todd was on the National team in 1993 and it was guys from junior to ex-NHL players. He does not feel it could happen again if the NHL do not go to the Olympics again. Todd would love to see the National team come back but the cost would be too much for Hockey Canada.

Alex Marvez – Fox Sports One NFL Insider

Alex says Percy Harvin will be an X-factor after being cleared to play in the Super Bowl. He will be a threat to pick up ‘chunks’ of yards and help Russell Wilson. Alex talks about some prop bets for the Super Bowl. One of the favourites is how many times will Peyton Manning say ‘Omaha’ during the game. Mike talked about Mike Pettine taking over in Cleveland and was loved by the Bills. The key for the Browns is a QB and running back. Johnny Manziel would be a good fit in Cleveland. Taj Boyd stock is falling.

Jeff O’Neill – Leafs Analyst

Jeff ripped David Bastl and clarified his comments about Winnipeg last week about players not signing long term deals. Jeff says the Jets are middle ground team and won’t win you the Stanley Cup. Jeff says 30-year-old players do not want to play for the Jets. If Jeff was playing he would want to play with the best teams in the NHL like Chicago and Pittsburgh. Jeff says he predicted the Leafs losing badly in Colorado but it happened in Dallas based on their schedule this week. Jeff says the Leafs need an effort and performance against Winnipeg on Saturday. Jeff says Bernier will likely start Saturday because the team has confidence in them. Jeff says Dion Phaneuf may have played his worst game as a Leaf. Jeff says Sidney Crosby and the Penguins are not upset that he wasn’t Canada’s flag bearer. Jeff says he talked to Colin Campbell and he got the feeling the NHL did too many outdoor games this season.

Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC

Pierre talked about his game in Detroit last night as the Red Wings upset the Blackhawks. Pierre says Mike Babcock should get credit for the coaching job he is doing with a less talented team in Detroit. The Red Wings have been hurt with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Franson injuries this season. Pierre says the Penguins do not want Marc-Andre Fluery to fight and would not have been happy if he would have fought Peter Budaj. Pierre talked about the situation with Lubomir Visnovsky and whether he should be allowed to play in the Olympics even though the Islanders say he won’t be because he suffered a concussion. Pierre talked about the Stars will play a great up tempo game which plays into the Leafs hands.

Leafs Breakfast w/Darren Dreger

Darren talks about Brandon Kozan trade to add depth to the Marlies lineup. Darren talked about the Leafs in Dallas tonight and he talked about the contributions of the blue line offensively in recent games. Darren feels David Clarkson will be at least a week away because of the infection in his elbow. Darren says the Leafs had serious interest in Michael Del Zotto but never wanted to give up on Cody Franson in return. Darren likes the Del Zotto trade for both teams. Darren hopes it will be a busy trade deadline day but he feels activity may pick up before the Olympic break begins.

Steve Simmons – Sun Media

Steve talked about Eugenie Bouchard's tremendous tennis tournament in Australia. Steve says she has captured the hearts of the tennis community and Canada. Steve says the Yankees can spend whatever they want to land Tanaka because they are the cool kids and everyone else in baseball is not. Steve says you can’t hand Tanaka the Cy Young yet but they look good on paper and he feels the Jays and Orioles will be fighting for last place. Steve is going to Sochi and is very concerned about his safety in light of the terror concerns surrounding the games. Steve says this Olympics is Putin’s show and the security will be beefed up. Steve feels Sidney Crosby would be his choice for the flag bearer or Haley Wickenheiser.

Kevin Harlan – Super Bowl Radio Voice

Kevin talked about Wes Welker and his emergence as a great receiver under Bill Belichek and their relationship turned sour after Welker’s financial demands could not be meant. Belichek loves loyalty and felt Welker wasn’t. Kevin talked how Russell Wilson is not as pretty to watch as Colin Kaepernick but finds a way to win games and make the right decisions.

Jim Ralph - Leafs Colour Analyst

Jim talk about the Stars and their mixture of youth and experience could be a threat in the next couple of years. Jim talks about Peter Holland and where he can fit anywhere in the lineup and Jim looks at the game against the Blackhawks where he stood out. Jim says there are lots of defensemen like Michael Del Zotto and if they traded for him it would have been a lateral move. Jim says the Leafs cannot look up in the standings because there are so many teams chasing the Maple Leafs.

Recap:

Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC

Pierre talked about the middle-tier teams and the key is goaltending, consistent offense and don’t go on a long losing streak. Pierre talked about the Leafs sixth straight win over Colorado. Pierre thinks going into Colorado off a game in Phoenix tells you that this team is ‘sparked’ and full of confidence. Pierre feels the Leafs could be a top ten team in the NHL because of the roll they are on because of their goaltending. Pierre talked about the red hot Columbus Blue Jackets who have won 7 games in a row which won a huge game over the Kings. Pierre talked about the Capitals weak goaltending after another loss against the Senators. Pierre says when Ovechkin is not in the Capitals lineup they have no confidence. Pierre says the Winnipeg Jets are surging under Paul Maurice with a big win in Anaheim.

Leafs Breakfast w/Darren Dreger

Darren talked about the Leafs big win in Colorado. Darren says Phil Kessel is red hot and could have scored more goals last night because he was that good. Darren says David Bolland is still dealing with pain but is skating better which will be a huge boost to the Leafs lineup. Darren says there is more consistency throughout the Leafs lineup and give James Reimer big props for a strong game. Darren talks about Carter Ashton diminished role against the Avalanche after a strong game in Phoenix. Darren says it is the way it is right now because everyone else ahead of him is playing well. Darren talks about Tim Gleason’s role and has played very well for the Leafs after struggling his first couple of games as a Leaf.

Alex Marvez – Fox Sports One NFL Reporter

Alex talks about the Seahawks and how they are an angry team but they have been exposed after their win over the Niners. Alex says he loved the Richard Sherman postgame rant because it was ‘raw’. Alex says he likes the extra week off before the Super Bowl to build up the event around the game. Alex says Richard Sherman is motivated by hate for his opposition. Alex says the Niners should never have thrown at him late in the game.

Matt Devlin – Raptors TV Voice

Matt says the past 3 of 4 losses have been bad loses and now there is a sense of urgency. Matt says the Raptors face another tough stretch in their schedule. Matt says teams are coming after the Raptors and played them tougher defensively especially against DeRozan. Matt says confidence is a fine line when it comes to Jonas Valanciunas. He is young and has played well and it will be continuous learning curve. Matt really like Patrick Patterson, John Salmons, and Chuck Hayes and could be a strong core of the bench moving forward.

Recap:

Pierre McGuire – NHL on NBC

Pierre says Saturday’s line brawl is nothing new with John Tortorella. This is the third time that a line brawl has happened with Torts as a coach. Pierre says Tortorella will get suspended for the intermission tirade going after Flames players. Pierre is upset that the NHL had no security to stop Tortorella because it is a long walk between dressing rooms. Pierre is upset that the line brawl over shadowed a great Bruins/Blackhawks game yesterday and he disagreed with Peter Gammons tweeter comments. Pierre said he will never get bored watching the Bruins/Blackhawks play because they have major league talent. Pierre talked about how ‘Doc’ Emrick makes a game so exciting.

Leafs Breakfast w/Darren Dreger

Darren talked about the great first period the Leafs had against the Canadiens on Saturday. Darren talked about the upcoming 4-game road trip and how no game will be an easy one for the Leafs. Darren stressed the Leafs do not want to trade James Reimer at this time because they like having the security of 2 strong goaltenders. Darren talked about John Tortorella will get ‘whacked’ by the NHL for attempting to enter the Flames dressing room. Darren believes everyone was at fault in the brawl but Torts will be the one getting the most discipline.

Chris Schultz – TSN Football Analyst

Chris talked about the key to the NFC Championship was ultimately the running game and Marshawn Lynch got better throughout the game and Frank Gore was struggling. Chris said the Seahawks outlasted the Niners physically especially in the fourth quarter. Chris thought Colin Kaepernick is still not an elite quarterback but used his legs to his advantage. Chris said the Broncos dominated the Patriots even though they didn’t convert in the red zone. Chris said Peyton Manning picked apart the Patriots especially when New England lost Aqib Talib.

Aaron Ward – TSN Hockey Analyst

Aaron talked about the Flames/Canucks line brawl on Saturday night. Aaron did not understand why Tortorella bolted to confront 40 guys is not the best reaction but he gets it. Aaron defended Tortorella’s decision not putting the Sedins out and it was a good decision because Bieksa tried to defuse the fight and it never happened. Aaron blames Bob Hartley starting the 5 guys because he has Brian Burke as his boss and this may have to do for job security. Aaron told a great story about a line brawl he fought in 1993 and it was classic. Aaron says Tortorella’s defense will be Ron Rolston on the John Scott suspension in the pre-season. Aaron talked about his response to Peter Gammons calling the NHL ‘minor league’ and ripped him for not looking at his own sport first.
