The Blue Jays' triple-A team will be playing a lot closer to Toronto next season.
The team announced a new two-year affiliation with the Buffalo Bisons of the AAA International League on Tuesday. The move ends the Blue Jays' four-year affiliation with the Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League.
"From a baseball point of view, this is a great fit for our organization," explained Jays senior vice president and general manager Alex Anthopoulos in a statement. "With only 160 kilometres separating the two fields, we will have greater flexibility to make roster decisions and an increased opportunity to watch our most developed prospects. We look forward to providing the Bisons with an exciting and talented roster."
The Blue Jays had a triple-A squad in Syracuse, New York for 31 seasons before starting a new partnership with Las Vegas in 2009.
