SportsCentre Year in Review presents Top 10 Stories of 2012

From the 100th GREY CUP to the NHL lockout, and all the golden storylines from London 2012, it's been another year of captivating headlines in sports. TSN today announced its annual list of the Top 10 sports stories of the year as chosen by a panel of commentators, reporters and producers from Canada's Sports Leader.  TSN will count down the Top 10 stories of 2012 during SPORTSCENTRE: YEAR IN REVIEW on Monday, Dec. 24 at 8 p.m. ET. 

Encore broadcasts of SPORTSCENTRE: YEAR IN REVIEW are available on December 24, December 25, December 26, December 29, and December 31 on TSN and TSN2 (see below for schedule).

Leading up to the annual year-end special, SPORTSCENTRE will air a series of special reports that look back at each of the Top 10 stories. Each day, TSN reporters and analysts who covered the events as they happened will offer their personal reflections on the stories. The daily reports begin Friday, Dec. 14 on all editions of SPORTSCENTRE (see below for schedule).

TSN's Top 10 sports stories of 2012 (in no set order):

• The Los Angeles Kings win the team's first Stanley Cup in 45 years
• Peyton Manning overcomes a severe injury and joins the Denver Broncos after 14 years with the Indianapolis Colts
• LeBron James is finally crowned a champion as the Miami Heat win the NBA Finals
• The Toronto Argonauts win the historic 100th GREY CUP in front of a home crowd
• Eli Manning leads the New York Giants to a second Super Bowl victory in four years
• Canada's women's soccer team wins bronze after a heartbreaking semifinal loss
• The NHL lockout threatens to put the 2012-13 season on ice
• Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt silence critics with their golden performances at London 2012
• Lance Armstrong is stripped of his seven Tour de France titles following a doping scandal
• The Toronto Blue Jays stock up on blockbuster trade with Marlins and acquiring R.A. Dickey

A holiday tradition on TSN, the 60-minute SPORTSCENTRE: YEAR IN REVIEW is hosted by Darren Dutchyshen and Jennifer Hedger. Along with counting down the Top 10 stories of 2012, the year-end show also unveils the year's Top 10 highlights, lowlights, and sound bites, as well as a special edition of the Ultimate SC.

Dutchyshen and Hedger will tee up the Top 10 stories of the year in a one-hour live chat with fans tomorrow at 12 noon ET on TSN.ca.
                   
TSN.ca complements SPORTSCENTRE: YEAR IN REVIEW with feature articles written by TSN personalities who covered the Top 10 stories. Beginning tomorrow, TSN personalities will also join TSN Radio and TEAM Radio stations across the country to recap the stories for fans.

Leading up to the Christmas Eve special, fans can discuss and debate the Top 10 stories of 2012 on TSN's official Facebook page and on Twitter by following @SportsCentre and using the hashtag #SCYearInReview. 

Fans can also visit TSN.ca/YearInReview to vote for their favourite sports story of the year.

Friday, Dec. 14 – The Los Angeles Kings win the team's first Stanley Cup in 45 years: Ryan Rishaug recounts his experience at the Staples Center in Los Angeles as the Los Angeles Kings beat the New Jersey Devils to clinch their first-ever NHL championship.

Saturday, Dec. 15 – Peyton Manning overcomes a severe injury and joins the Denver Broncos after 14 years with the Indianapolis Colts: Rod Smith and football analyst Chris Schultz review Peyton Manning's recovery from a serious neck injury followed by his shocking move to the Denver Broncos after 14 years with the Indianapolis Colts.

Sunday, Dec. 16 – LeBron James is finally crowned a champion as the Miami Heat win the NBA Finals: TSN basketball analyst Jack Armstrong closely followed this year's NBA Finals that saw LeBron James finally crowned a champion – two years after teaming up with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade in Miami in an attempt to build a dynasty.

Monday, Dec. 17 – The Toronto Argonauts win the historic 100th GREY CUP in front of a home crowd: Football Insider Dave Naylor watched from the sidelines as the Toronto Argonauts won the historic 100th GREY CUP in front of a home crowd with a convincing 35-22 victory over the Calgary Stampeders.

Tuesday, Dec. 18 – After blockbuster trades with the Marlins and Mets, the Toronto Blue Jays stock up for their run at championship glory for the 2013 season.  

Wednesday, Dec. 19 – Canada's women's soccer team wins bronze after a heartbreaking semifinal loss: London 2012 reporter Sheri Forde followed Canada's women's soccer team from their heartbreaking semifinal loss at Wembley Stadium to their gutsy bronze medal win at Coventry Stadium

Thursday, Dec. 20 – The NHL lockout threatens to put the 2012-13 season on ice: The NHL ON TSN panel breaks down the NHL lockout, from the contentious issues and tersely worded press conferences to where the league and players stand today

Friday, Dec. 21 – Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt are golden at London 2012: London 2012 reporter Farhan Lalji was on the ground in London as Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps both silenced critics and achieved legendary status following their golden performances at the Summer Games

Saturday, Dec. 22 – Lance Armstrong is stripped of his seven Tour de France titles: Bryan Mudryk examines one of the biggest doping scandals in cycling that led to Lance Armstrong being stripped of his seven Tour de France titles

Sunday, Dec. 23 – Eli Manning leads the New York Giants to a second Super Bowl victory in four years: Cory Woron and Monday Morning Quarterback Jesse Palmer look back at the New York Giants' "elite" quarterback Eli Manning who led the team to its second Super Bowl victory in four years.

• The New Orleans Saints shocking bounty scandal
• NFL replacement officials cause havoc in the first three weeks of the season
• Tragedy hits the slopes with the deaths of Canadians skiers Sarah Burke and Nik Zoricic
• Miguel Cabrera becomes the first Triple Crown winner since 1967
• Oscar Pistorius makes history as the first double amputee to compete at an Olympic Games
• NCAA hands Penn State a $60 million sanction following Jerry Sandusky's conviction
