Fit for a King?
The Globe and Mail's Eric Duhatschek discusses the Jarome Iginla to the Kings rumours and says he does not think Iginla would be a good fit in L.A. given the makeup of their roster. He also says the Kings are unlikely to part with backup Jonathan Bernier given Jonathan Quick's up and down season.
Duhatschek also talks Corey Perry, saying Toronto and Detroit could be in the mix should he hit the free agent market.
Would St. Louis want a trade?
Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times speculates as to whether Martin St. Louis would want to leave the Lightning or whether Steve Yzerman would consider dealing him.
No conversations are thought to have taken place about any such move as of yet and St. Louis has a no-move clause in his contract. Cristodero also says moving a player like St. Louis, who has meant so much to the franchise, would be very difficult from a PR perspective.
"For Yzerman, dealing St. Louis, who has been with the Lightning since July 2000, would be wrenching," says Cristodero.
Depth In Boston
With Chris Kelly down with a broken leg, Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe reports the Bruins are in the market to add depth to their third and fourth lines.
He also says the Bruins might look to bolster their blueline and names Ottawa's Sergei Gonchar as a potential target.
Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune says that Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman is keeping an eye on the trade market and while he is unlikely to make any major moves, he is open to offers.
"Probably just be depth-type moves," Bowman said. "We have had a nice, consistent group on defence … (and) up front, we have some different looks. Perhaps some centremen maybe as a depth thing in case you run into injuries. There's really not one area that's a glaring area (in need) of improvement."
Kuc says Bowman has, "had tons of conversations," but no deals are imminent.
Making a List
Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette lists some potential UFAs that could be moved before the trade deadline as playoff rentals. Among the players he lists are Calgary's Jarome Iginla and Anton Babchuk, Edmonton's Ryan Whitney and Ladislav Smid as well as Colorado's Milan Hejduk.
Molinari also points out that the Penguins have a history of acquiring such players, like Gary Roberts, Bill Guerin and Alex Kovalev for the stretch run.
