Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella suffered two broken ribs on Friday after a collision with forward Rene Bourque during an outdoor practice Friday. He will not be behind the bench on Saturday in Boston, with Craig Hartsburg temporarily assuming his duties.

The 57-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital after the collision with Bourque to get things "checked out", according to general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen.

Bourque clipped his coach while he was skating up the left wing and Tortorella went down "hard, twisting and falling awkwardly on hip/rump," according to Mitchell. Bourque said he "hit a rut" before skating into his coach.

The coach had hip replacement surgery in 2010, according to Mitchell.
