What are the Odds?

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger said on Tuesday’s edition of “Insider Trading” that while Leafs GM Dave Nonis has not put up the “for sale” sign yet, he has informed rival GMs to ready their offers for potential trade targets for when he is ready to deal.

The Insiders ranked the likelihood of certain Leafs players getting moved before Mar. 3 and leading the way were pending unrestricted free agents Cody Franson and Daniel Winnik at 85 per cent. Defenceman Korbinian Holzer was given a 75 per cent chance of relocation while fellow pending UFA Mike Santorelli was put at 60 per cent.

Of the Leafs under long-term contracts, Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak were given the highest odds of a trade prior to the deadline at 60 per cent apiece.

Fellow Insider Pierre LeBrun stated that the Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators and Los Angeles Kings are all interested in Franson. LeBrun added Wednesday on ESPN.com that Nonis stayed behind in Nashville an extra day to scout the Predators' Thursday night game against Anaheim.

Ready, if Needed

The Buffalo Sabres – currently dead last in the NHL standings – will almost certainly be making trades before the deadline and one of the most popular trade targets for speculation is 25-year-old blueliner Tyler Myers.

However, with four years left on his deal, Myers knows that the organization is in no hurry to deal him. The hulking D-man has just grown accustomed to the speculation.

“It’s been going on the entire year so I’ve gotten pretty used to it,” Myers told the Buffalo News' John Vogl on Tuesday. “Just because it’s closer to the deadline, it’s not going to change anything for me.”

Myers added that he’s comfortable with what Sabres GM Tim Murray has planned.

“I’ve seen enough in the media to know that Tim’s not shopping me,” he said of Sabres General Manager Tim Murray, “but I think every player should understand for the right price I’m sure anything can happen. Until that time comes, if it ever comes, the focus is to play as well as I can for this team.”

C-anucks

The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly looking for options up the middle as they wait for Brad Richardson to return from injury.

Ben Kuzma of The Province explored some of the Canucks’ options down the middle on Wednesday, including whether the Leafs’ Santorelli might be a fit.

“What Richardson brings on the bench and on the ice — especially the penalty kill — is being sorely missed,” Kuzma wrote.

“The pending UFA can walk but the skate boot rubs the ankle the wrong way and if it lingers much longer you have to wonder what the Canucks may do at the March 2 trade deadline. They are rumoured to have interest in pending UFA centre Mike Santorelli, a former Canuck, but Jim Benning won't part with a draft pick.”

Pierre LeBrun added on Wednesday that the New York Rangers are also apparently interested in Santorelli.

Capital Question

The Ottawa Senators are getting calls on veteran tough guy Chris Neil, LeBrun stated on Insider Trading Tuesday night.

While Neil remains under contract for another year beyond 2014-15, GM Bryan Murray has reached out to the career-long Senator about his willingness to relocate and is expected to do so again prior to the deadline.

He has a limited no-trade, but LeBrun wrote on ESPN.com on Wednesday that several clubs have reached out to Neil to test his interest in leaving Ottawa. Among the interested teams are the Nashville Predators, home of Neil's former Senators teammate Mike Fisher. The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly also interested.

Neil has scored four goals and three assists in 33 games with 56 penalty minutes so far this season. His 211 PIM in 2013-14 was the second-highest single-season mark of his 13-year career.
