Panthers trade D Allen to Hurricanes for Samsonov

The Florida Panthers have traded defeceman Bryan Allen to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for winger Sergei Samsonov.

"Bryan is a good addition to our defense," said general manager Jim Rutherford. "He has great character and experience and will add size and grit to our team."

Allen, the 30-year-old veteran who is in his 10th NHL season, totaled 28 goals and 71 assists through 500 career games. This season, the Kingston, Ont., native has four goals and eight assists through 53 games.

Drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round (4th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Allen was traded to the Panthers, along with Todd Bertuzzi and Alex Auld, for Roberto Luongo, Lukas Krajicek and a sixth round selection in 2006.
