The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded goaltender Steve Mason to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for goaltender Michael Leighton and a 2015 third-round draft pick.

Mason has posted an 3-6-1 record in 13 games with the Blue Jackets this season with a 2.95 goals-against average and an .899 save percentage.

In his first three seasons with the Blue Jackets, Mason had been a workhorse, appearing in 50 or more games in each.

Originally selected in the third round (69th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by Columbus, Mason's best pro season by far came as a rookie.

Mason would win the Calder Trophy in 2009 after posting a 33-20-7 record with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage while posting 10 shutouts.

In 232 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Mason has posted a 96-99-27 record with a .903 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average.

The 23-year-old is in the final year of a two-year contract worth an average annual value of $2.9 million. He will remain a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current deal.
