With the NHL's trade deadline looming, Craig MacTavish knows exactly what his goals are for the Edmonton Oilers.

"I'd be disappointed if we weren't able to get our second- or third-rounder back," the Oilers GM explained to reporters on Tuesday. "And potentially more than that. If we're sitting at the draft with our first pick and then we're not picking again until the fourth round, that'd be disappointing.

"That's exactly what we're going to try and do - get those picks back."

While the Oilers have their first-round selection - on pace for a high lottery position - the team traded its second-round pick to the St. Louis Blues last summer for winger David Perron and its third-round pick to the Los Angeles Kings last month for goaltender Ben Scrivens.

And there's plenty of trade speculation surrounding the Oilers - particularly regarding forwards Sam Gagner, Ryan Smyth and Ales Hemsky.

Smyth and Hemsky are set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1, while Gagner had two years left on his contract worth $4.8 million per season.

"We're going to be aggressively speaking to teams and letting them know what we're trying to do, seeing if there's a fit," said MacTavish.
