CLEVELAND — Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis had to leave Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Indians on Friday due to injury.
Travis, who has been nursing a bone bruise in his right knee, was replaced by backup infielder Ryan Goins in the fifth inning.
The 25-year-old played in the opener of the AL Division Series in Texas but was a late scratch for Game 2. He also missed the third game as Toronto completed a three-game sweep.
Travis went 0 for 2 on Friday night and left three runners on base.
He appeared to favour his leg after covering first base on a bunt by Coco Crisp for the first out in the Cleveland half of the fifth inning. Travis was clearly hobbling after Tyler Naquin followed with a groundout.
He left the game after talking with Blue Jays manager John Gibbons. Goins, a defensive specialist, hit .139 in 11 post-season games last year.
