I'm on a real roll with my weekly CFL picks; not a good roll, but a bad one.

I'm 1-7 in the last eight games, with the only redeeming factor being there are still plenty of games left to go.

B.C. at Winnipeg
The most interesting stat from the Blue Bombers season so far – they've been outscored 70-19 in the two games quarterback Drew Willy has been forced out of by injury. Why? One answer might be that backup Brian Brohm has not played well enough in relief of the Winnipeg starter. It's unclear if Willy will be able to go this week, and leading receiver Nick Moore is a question mark with a lower-body injury. Either way, the Bombers have to find a way to better respond to adversity because overcoming adversity is what football is all about. With the Lions, maybe it is about learning to keep their confidence in check. Last week they were up 21-0 and picked off Argos starter Trevor Harris twice early, but still managed to lose 30-27. Both teams need this one in a big way.
The pick: Lions over the Blue Bombers.

Saskatchewan at Edmonton
Saskatchewan quarterback Kevin Glenn's health is everything in this game, as I don't think either Brett Smith or Tino Sunseri is ready for the starter's role. The winless Roughriders also face the challenge of finding a way to put up points against the CFL's best defence this week. The Eskimos have allowed only 51 points this season, with 26 of those coming in a Week 1 loss to Toronto. In the last three games, Edmonton's dominating defence has allowed an average of 8.3 points. Matt Nichols will start this game for the Eskimos and it's the right decision. He hasn't really done anything to lose the starting job, but also hasn't done anything impressive enough to keep it. Head coach Chris Jones goes by feel when it comes to changing people, no matter the position. If Nichols is not efficient early, James Franklin will play again. Did you know Edmonton running back Kendial Lawrence had 195 all-purpose yards last week against Winnipeg? For the first time this year, I'm not taking the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The pick: The Eskimos keep the Roughriders winless.

Montreal at Calgary
This is the second time Rakeem Cato has faced the Stampeders this season, but the circumstances are so different this time around. Cato was unproven in the first start. He's a known and respected commodity across the league now. It's also very tough to beat a John Hufnagel-coached team twice in a row. This one should be close as Montreal is coming off the bye and don't have to be concerned with Calgary running back Jon Cornish, who is out six to eight weeks with a broken thumb. Calgary will count on Matt Walter to carry the load. He's not as talented as Cornish, but is rock-solid as a running back. I think he could be a starter for another team if he found himself in the right place at the right time. Add a little Tim Brown at just the right moment and the running game will be okay in Calgary. I see Bo Levi Mitchell completing more than 56 per cent of his passes, just as he did last week in Ottawa.
The pick: The Stampeders beat the Als.

Toronto at Hamilton
Running back C.J. Gable makes all the difference for Hamilton's offence, and makes his offensive line look good. On defence, the Tiger-Cats will blitz you into submission, even if they get burned every now and then. You can't overlook the fact that Hamilton remains undefeated at Tim Hortons Field.  For the Argos, starting quarterback Trevor Harris has proven he is for real. It will be fascinating to see which way the team goes when Ricky Ray is healthy enough to return. Tori Gurley, Vidal Hazelton, and Kevin Elliot are good receivers who have helped the Argos offence improve from last year. Toronto's defensive line is off-the-ball explosive, and can create pressure with a four-man rush. This is also a matchup of two excellent football minds in Hamilton head coach Kent Austin and Toronto's Scott Milanovich. It's easy to make an argument for either team to win on Monday night.
The pick: The Tiger-Cats pick up another win at home.
