The New York Islanders fell to the Nashville Predators 3-1 on Monday night and were jumped in the standings by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

However, the Islanders remain in the thick of the Eastern Conference wild-card race, trailing the Boston Bruins by two points.

Thomas Greiss was credited with the loss on Monday, dropping his record to 1-3-1 over his past five starts. Greiss has posted a .913 save percentage over that span, allowing 13 goals on 150 shots.

Jaroslav Halak has made one start since being recalled from the AHL last week - he turned aside 37 of 40 shots faced in a shootout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After Monday's loss, interim head coach Doug Weight admitted he didn't have an exact plan for his goaltenders, but both would play moving forward.

“I don’t have a plan right now. I’m exhausted,” Weight told the New York Post. “They’ll both be playing.”

As for relief in the lineup from injuries, Weight said he doesn't expect Nikolay Kulemin to return in either of the team's next two games, but said the forward remains day-to-day.

“Each day hurts us,” Weight told the Post. “He’s a valuable piece for us. I really like when he’s in the lineup. But he’s got some discomfort. The plan of attack is just to work every day and see when we can get him back on the ice.

“I wouldn’t look for him Thursday or Friday, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to push it and got in. It’s not going to be longer than two, three weeks, that’s for sure. Best case scenario would be the end of the week, and I don’t know if that’s going to happen.”

Weight added it would "be great" if defenceman Johnny Boychuk were to return to the lineup this week, but didn't provide an update on his timetable. Boychuk has been out since March 3 with a lower-body injury.

The interim head coach, who was hired in January when Jack Capuano was fired, said his team understands the stakes entering the final seven games of the season.

“Going into every game like if you don’t win, you’re going to be passed by three teams, you’re going to be out of the playoffs. It’s exhausting, but it’s exciting, too,” Weight said, per the Post. “So we have to find a way to get to them in a better fashion. We haven’t done it the last couple games.”

“We’ve played a lot of hockey, emotionally invested for six weeks now trying to get back into this,” Weight added. “It’s not an excuse, it’s just tough to do. But we have to find a way to do it.”
