COLUMBUS, Ohio - At 32, Scott Hartnell is a dozen years older than Alexander Wennberg and Marko Dano.

Since they have been put on the same line, the rookies have learned a lot, and the veteran has been rejuvenated.

They combined for two goals and three assists, and Wennberg scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

"It's fun playing with that youth," Hartnell said after scoring a goal with 3:37 left in regulation to tie the game. "Those young legs, they get me going. It's exciting."

Wennberg, who scored his first NHL shootout goal on his third try, also had two assists for the Blue Jackets, who ended a five-game losing streak at home. It had been a month since the club last won a home game. Their 13-19-2 mark is 28th in the 30-team league.

"It's good to battle through it and come back to win," said Wennberg, the No. 14 pick in the 2013 draft. "It's fun playing out there, especially in a tough game and coming up with a big W."

Dano, a third-round pick in the same draft, had a goal and an assist. Cam Atkinson and Artem Anisimov also scored for Columbus, which has won its last three games. Nick Foligno had two assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves.

The Blue Jackets blew leads of 2-0 and 3-2 before coming back for the win against another team near the bottom in the NHL.

"We finished the game well," coach Todd Richards said. "It was exciting, in the overtime and scoring a goal late in the third."

After the first eight skaters came up empty in the shootout, Wennberg's low shot slipped into the net off Scrivens' glove. Bobrovsky then reached back to stop Teddy Purcell.

With the score tied 3-3, the Oilers grabbed their first lead while on a 5-on-3 power play. Nail Yakupov unloaded a shot from the left circle after receiving Jordan Eberle's blind, behind-the-back pass. It was Yakupov's 11th goal.

The Blue Jackets tied it late. Wennberg's shot from the left wing squirted into and between Dano and a defender at the goal mouth. While Scrivens scrambled to dive on the loose puck, which was sitting in the crease, Hartnell jammed it in for his 20th.

Eberle had a goal to go with his assist, and Derek Roy and Andrew Ference also scored for the Oilers, who have lost seven in a row (0-6-1). Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Justin Schultz each had two assists, and Ben Scrivens stopped 27 shots.

"It's tough. It's frustrating," Oilers coach Todd Nelson said. "Our guys played well tonight. In the third we couldn't lock it down. But I thought we played well enough to get two points tonight."

Dano scored the fastest goal by a Blue Jacket this season just 43 seconds in and Atkins added a one-timer with just 2.7 seconds left in the first period for a quick 2-0 lead.

Eberle and Roy scored power-play goals in the second to tie it, Eberle notched his 18th by tucking a shot inside the near post over Bobrovsky's right shoulder.

Then Roy benefited from a weird bounce. The puck rolled along the dasher at the back board, with Bobrovsky going behind the net to handle it. The puck hit something at the base of the wall, and it kicked back to Roy who was alone at the net for an easy tap-in.

Anisimov and Ference then traded goals to square it heading into the third period.

NOTES: Columbus welcomed back D Ryan Murray, who had missed 17 games with a high ankle sprain. ... The Oilers had three power-play goals in a game for the first time this season. ... When Dano scored in the opening minute, Scrivens had given up five goals on 14 shots over 21:48 in a little over 24 hours. ... The Blue Jackets hadn't won three in a row since mid-December.
