LONDON - West Ham expects to be without Andy Carroll for the rest of the season after the striker undergoes knee surgery.

Carroll was forced off in Wednesday's 0-0 draw at Southampton, and West Ham says Carroll will undergo surgery on his left knee on Tuesday.

West Ham said on its website "the recovery phase is expected to keep Carroll out for the remainder of the 2014-15 season."

Carroll missed the start of the season and much of last year with injuries, scoring five goals in 16 appearances since November.

West Ham is eighth in the Premier League.
