EVERETT, Wash. - Adam Helewka had a pair of goals in the first period as the Spokane Chiefs evened their first-round playoff series by downing the Everett Silvertips 6-2 in Game 2 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Dominic Zwerger also scored twice as the Chiefs opened the game with six-straight goals. Jason Fram, on the power play, and Jackson Playfair added the others.

Matt Fonteyne and Cole MacDonald answered in the third period for Everett.

Garret Hughson made 29 saves. Carter Hart started for the Silvertips and turned aside 5-of-8 shots in 11:08 before being pulled. Austin Lotz went the rest of the way, stopping 26 shots.

Spokane scored three times on nine power plays while Everett went 1 for 7.

The series resumes on Wednesday in Spokane, Wash.

REGINA — Adam Brooks scored the winner at 6:34 of the third period as the Pats took a 2-0 series lead by edging Swift Current in their first-round playoff series.

Taylor Cooper and Jesse Gabrielle had goals in the first period for Regina.

Brett Lernout and Tyler Steenbergen found the back of the net for the Broncos.

The series shifts to Swift Current, Sask., for Game 3 on Tuesday.

THUNDERBIRDS 4 WINTERHAWKS 3

PORTLAND, Ore. — Mathew Barzal scored twice, including the winner late in the third period, as Seattle opened its playoffs with a Game 1 win over the Winterhawks.

Scott Eansor tied the game at three in the third for the Thunderbirds with Cory Millette adding the other goal.

Adam Henry, Blake Heinrich and Evan Weinger supplied the offence for Portland.

The series resumes in Portland on Sunday.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Cole Sanford's power-play goal in the second period stood as the winner as the Tigers took Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against Red Deer.

Kyle Becker opened the scoring in the first period for Medicine Hat.

Grayson Pawlenchuk answered with a goal for the Rebels in the third.

Game 2 takes place on Sunday in Medicine Hat.

VICTORIA — Brandon Magee kept his strong playoffs going with two goals, including the winner, as the Royals edged Prince George to take a 2-0 first-round series lead.

Magee now has five goals in two post-season games. Jack Walker, Greg Chase and Tyler Soy rounded out the attack.

Tate Olson struck twice with Chase Witala and Zach Pochiro adding the others.

The series moves to Prince George, B.C. for Game 3 on Wednesday.

KELOWNA, B.C. — Jackson Whistle stopped all 30 shots he faced as the Rockets blanked Tri-City to take took a 2-0 series lead in their first-round matchup.

Rodney Southam scored in the first period for Kelowna while Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl and Tyson Baillie had goals in the third.

Winnipeg Jets draft pick Eric Comrie turned away 42 shots for the Americans. Maxwell James was ejected at 19:40 of the first after receiving a minor for instigating and a fighting major.

The series moves to Kennewick, Wash., for Game 3 on Tuesday.
