KELOWNA, B.C. — Patrick Dea stopped all 39 shots his way as the Tri-City Americans opened the Western Hockey League playoffs with a 5-0 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Thursday.

Morgan Geekie and Michael Rasmussen both scored twice and added an assist for the Americans, who entered the post-season as the first wild-card team in the Western Conference. Isaac Johnson rounded out the offence.

Jame Porter kicked out 32 shots for the No. 2 Rockets.

Kelowna forward Dillon Dube was given a major and game misconduct for charging at 19:49 of the second period that led to two quick power-play goals for Tri-City.

The Americans went 3 for 3 on the power play while the Rockets failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

Kelowna hosts Game 2 on Saturday.
