SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Aleksi Heponiemi scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period as the Swift Current Broncos edged the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-2 on Friday in Game 1 of their Western Hockey League semifinal series.

Max Patterson and Giorgio Estephan also scored for Swift Current, which build up a 2-0 in the second period.

Matthew Stanley and Calen Addison scored for the Hurricanes to tie the game in the third.

Broncos goaltender Stuart Skinner made 39 saves. Lethbridge's Logan Flodell stopped 27 shots.

Swift Current will host Game 2 on Saturday.

SILVERTIPS 3 AMERICANS 2

EVERETT, Wash. — Garrett Pilon had a pair of goals as the Silvertips held on to beat Tri-City in Game 1 of their third-round matchup.

Connor Dewar also scored while Carter Hart made 24 saves for Everett.

Morgan Geekie and Michael Rasmussen responded for the Americans. Patrick Dea stopped 30 shots in defeat.

Game 2 goes Saturday in Everett.
