VICTORIA - Jackson Playfair scored at 1:29 of overtime as the Tri-City Americans edged the Victoria Royals 5-4 in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.

Lucas Nickles, Vladislav Lukin, Parker Wotherspoon and Semyon Krasheninnikov rounded out the offence for Tri-City (9-8-0), which scored two consecutive goals to tie the game in the third period.

Brandon Magee had two goals and an assist for the Royals (9-7-2), Joe Hicketts scored one and helped on another and Travis Brown also scored.

Eric Comrie made 23 saves in the victory. Coleman Vollrath stopped 24 shots in the loss.

COUGARS 3 BLAZERS 2 (SO)

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Brad Morrison and Jansen Harkins scored in the shootout and Ty Edmonds made 42 saves as the Cougars slipped past Kamloops.

Jared Bethune and Chance Braid scored in regulation for Prince George (10-8-0), which played without Chase Witala after he received a major and a game misconduct for cross checking at 13:47 of the first period.

Deven Sideroff and Logan McVeigh scored for the Blazers (9-8-2) while Connor Ingram turned away 34 shots in defeat.

WINTERHAWKS 3 OIL KINGS 1

PORTLAND, Ore. — Michael Bullion made 32 saves as the Winterhawks handed Edmonton its fourth straight loss.

Chase De Leo, Dominic Turgeon and Evan Weinger supplied the offence for Portland (7-10-2). Defenceman Anton Cederholm was lost 3:37 into the game after being handed a major and game misconduct for a check to the head of Oil King Mads Eller.

Brandon Baddock scored for Edmonton (9-6-2), which got a 16-save performance from Tristan Jarry in net.

ROCKETS 5 GIANTS 3

VANCOUVER — Rourke Chartier scored twice and set up one more as Kelowna toppled the Giants.

Nick Merkley, Jesse Lees and Tomas Soustal also scored for the Rockets (14-1-1) as Michael Herringer kicked out 16 shots for the win.

Clayton Kirichenko, Matt Bellerive and Joel Hamilton had a goal apiece for Vancouver (7-9-0). Cody Porter made 26 saves in the loss.
