The date has been set for the appeal of Dennis Wideman's 20-game suspension.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, Wideman will meet with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on Wednesday in New York City.

The Calgary Flames defenceman was suspended 20 games on Tuesday for his violent Jan. 27 collision with linesman Don Henderson - the amount recommended by rule for the most serious offense for physical abuse of officials.

According to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wideman can appeal the ruling to Bettman and can then further appeal to neutral arbitrator James Oldham if Bettman stays a suspension longer than six games.

Wideman is scheduled to forfeit $564,516.20 in salary, which goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
