Goaltender Jimmy Howard knows his name could be on the list when the Detroit Red Wings announce their available players for the Vegas Golden Knights in June's expansion draft.

The Red Wings can only protect one goaltender and Howard is both older - 33 to 25 - and more expensive ($5.29 million to $4 million) than fellow Red Wings netminder Petr Mrazek. Howard says he's not stressing about the situation, since he has no control over who general manager Ken Holland will choose to protect.

“It’s a business, and what they (Red Wings management) decide, that’s what they decide,” Howard told the Detroit News. “It’s pretty much out of your control. I haven’t thought about it because you don’t want to stress yourself out. I haven’t spoken to anybody about it.”

Howard posted a 10-11-1 record during the regular season with a sparkling .927 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average. Though he was forced to miss roughly three months with a knee injury.

The 33-year-old was considered to be on the trade block last summer after Mrazek out-started him 54-37 during the 2015-16 season and 3-2 in the playoffs. However, unlike last season when Mrazek posted a .921 save percentage to Howard's .906, Howard outplayed Mrazek in 2016-17, posting a .927 mark to Mrazek's .901.

“Last year was kind of up in the air,” Howard said. “I didn’t know how everything was going to play out. I was so happy to be able to come back here for the last season at The Joe. I’m thrilled to be part of this organization.”

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun said Wednesday he believes the Red Wings would listen to trade offers for either goalie this offseason.

Howard is currently playing for Team USA at the world hockey championship. Entering Wednesday's game against Italy, he owned a 1-1 record with a .928 save percentage and a 2.54 goals against average through two starts.

Mrazek is also at the worlds, playing for the Czech Republic. He owns an 0-1 record with a .875 save percentage and a 2.90 GAA.

Howard is signed through the 2018-19 season, while Mrazek's contract will expire after next season.
