Saturday against Florida the Winnipeg Jets fell behind 2-0 in the first period but battled back to pick up a point. In Carolina the Jets fell behind by the same score in the first again and despite a great final two periods, they could only get one past Cam Ward and 2-1 was the final.

From late in the second into the third, the Jets prevented the Hurricanes from getting a shot on goal for a total of 15:40. At the other end of the ice the Jets peppered Ward out-shooting the Hurricanes 24-9 over the last two periods, including 14-2 in the third.

Alexander Burmistrov on a shorthanded chance was stopped by the left pad of Ward, while Kyle Wellwood on a breakaway had Ward down and out and put it over the net. The Jets also missed the net on a number of other opportunities. Jets ended the night with 21 shots that missed the target.

"We had enough chances to win," stated a disappointed Coach Claude Noel. "The Wellwood chance., we hit a post, Burnmistrov short handed, Thorburn went around their "D" and missed the net. Ward made some big saves, fortunate on some but he was very aggressive and we couldn't beat him. We needed to get people off to the side but that is easier said than done. We didn't start the game well and that concerns me."

Jeff Skinner opened the scoring seconds after Ward robbed Nik Antropov, who has been the Jets hottest goal scorer with three in his last two games. Skinner was on a two-on- one, Ron Hainsey blocked his pass but the puck came right back to him and with Chris Mason moving with the pass, Skinner had room on the short side for his 14th of the year. Tim Brent's attempted cross crease pass found its way through the pads on Mason for the 2-0 lead after one.

Wellwood on a great pass from Toby Enstrom got one through Ward to pull the Jets to within one, but despite a number of great chances there was no more scoring.

With the marker, Wellwood extended his point streak to a career high five and has a goal and six assists over that stretch. He also snapped a 16 game goal less drought. Antropov with an assist extended his point streak to 4 (3-3-6), while Enstrom's helper gives him 3-10-13 in 18 games since coming off injury.

Zach Bogosian fresh off a nine shot on goal game Saturday had another six to lead the Jets in that category.  He also lead in ice time for the second straight game.

Next up for the Jets are the New York Rangers Tuesday. (TSN Jets, TSN 1290) Jets will again be without Dustin Byfuglien, Evander Kane and Tim Stapleton. No word on the status of Burmistrov who was shaken up in the third when he got taken to the boards hard.

Earlier in the day it was announced that Dustin Byfuglien would not be attending the all -star game due to the knee injury.
