Munz: Jets conclude home stand against Islanders

The Winnipeg Jets (23-19-2) conclude a six-game home stand against the New York Islanders (23-16-5).

The Jets trail Washington by two points for first place in the Southeast Division, are two points behind the New York Rangers for the eighth and final playoff spot and three back of the seventh place Islanders in the Eastern Conference standings. The Capitals play in Montreal tonight while the Rangers host New Jersey tomorrow afternoon.

Neither team had a pregame skate at MTS Centre this morning due to the 2:00ct face off this afternoon.

Winnipeg is coming off a 4-3 overtime win against Carolina Thursday night which extended their winning streak to five games.

Ondrej Pavelec has started the last nine straight games in goal.

Andrew Ladd is on a six-game point streak (four goals and eight assists).

Blake Wheeler has scored in back-to-back games and is on a five-game point streak (three goals and seven assists).

Bryan Little also has points in his last five straight games (one goal and eight assists).

Zach Bogosian has one goal and five assists in his last three games.

New York is coming off a 5-3 win in Toronto Thursday night.  They are 7-0-2 in their last nine games.

Evgeni Nabokov has started the last seven straight games in goal.

Matt Moulson (two goals and one assist), Mark Streit (one goal and two assists), Frans Nielsen (one goal and one assist), Kyle Okposo (two assists) and Andrew MacDonald (two assists) are all on two-game point streaks.

The Islanders have the third-ranked power play on the road in the NHL at 23%.

Winnipeg and New York have split their two games this season. Evander Kane scored the overtime winner January 27th in a 5-4 win, while the Islanders prevailed 18 days ago on home ice 5-2. John Tavares leads all players in those two games with two goals and three assists. The Islanders were also 2-3 on the power play.

Next action for the Jets is Monday in Buffalo (6:00ct on TSN 1290 & TSN Jets).
