Munz: Pavelec gets the start as Jets visit Wild
10/10/2013 3:22:15 PM
The Winnipeg Jets are in St. Paul, Minnesota for a 7pm ct face off tonight against the Wild.
Shane Hnidy joins Brian Munz for the radio broadcast on TSN 1290, while Dennis Beyak and Brian Engblom will call the action on TSN Jets.
Ondrej Pavelec will start in goal for the Jets, who have a 2-1 record, after playing their first three games of the regular season schedule against Pacific Division opponents.
Head coach Claude Noel decided to hold an optional pre-game skate this morning so tonight's roster is unknown. However, based on who was off the ice earlier than others, it's my expectation Matt Halischuk will make his Jets debut tonight. Halischuk has 157 games of NHL experience over the past five seasons with New Jersey and Nashville. In those games, he has 54 points (25 goals and 29 assists).
Toby Enstrom (four assists) and Bryan Little (two goals and one assist) are on three-game point streaks. Captain Andrew Ladd has two goals and one assist in his last two games.
Tonight is the first of five regular season games between Winnipeg and Minnesota.
The Wild have a 0-1-2 record.
Josh Harding will start in goal due to a knee injury sustained by starting goaltender Niklas Backstrom Tuesday night in Nashville. Backstrom is listed as day-to-day and in his absence, Minnesota recalled Darcy Kuemper from the AHL's Iowa Wild to serve as Harding's backup.
Zach Parise has scored three goals in his last two games. In 24 career games against Atlanta/Winnipeg, Parise has scored 12 goals and has 11 assists.
Ryan Suter is averaging the most minutes played of all NHL players at 29:02.
Minnesota has the fourth best power play in the NHL at 38.5 per cent.
Following tonight's game, the Jets return home to host the Dallas Stars, 7pm ct tomorrow night (TSN 1290, TSN Jets) at MTS Centre.
