With the NHL Trade Deadline only weeks away, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and deciding which players can make the biggest difference or hold the greatest value.

Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.

Contract Talks

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun takes a look at a number of rumours and reports from around the league. Among those included are the Senators contract negotiations with All-Star defenceman Erik Karlsson and whether or not the Devils will look to deal pending unrestricted free agent forward Zach Parise. He also says the Leafs have been tossing around the names of Mikhail Grabovski and Clarke MacArthur in their trade discussions.

Looking to Unload

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports that the Blue Jackets would love to unload goalie Steve Mason. However, with one more year at $3.2 million and his poor play there are unlikely to be any takers. Matheson also says that the Blackhawks could use Carolina defenceman Tim Gleason, along with a half dozen other teams and that Red Wings pending UFA Brad Stuart, whose family lives in San Jose, could very well be heading back to California in the off-season.

Trickle Down Effect

It appears that Kings forward Simon Gagne is still a long way from resuming hockey activities. Kings Insider Rich Hammond discusses how the Kings injury situation and cap space will affect their ability to make moves prior to the Feb. 27 deadline.

Defensive Depth

With the number of concussions in Philly piling up and a lack of depth on defence will the Flyers be buyers at the trade deadline? Sam Carchidi on speculates as to what moves Flyers GM Paul Holmgren might make. He says there are rumblings that Nashville might make Shea Weber or Ryan Suter available and also speculates about the prospects of landing one of two defencemen from Carolina or perhaps even Toronto's Luke Schenn.

Core Commitment?

John Vogl reports that Sabres' president Ted Black is hinting that the team could make changes to its core group of players saying, "our commitment is to winning, not to any particular group of players that are labeled as a core." Black did however, speak out in support of head coach Lindy Ruff and GM Darcy Regier once again.

Bye, Bye Andy?

Since returning to the ice following his second suspension this year, Oilers defenceman Andy Sutton has been playing solid hockey and has caught the eye of several teams. Dan Tencer from discusses Sutton, Ales Hemsky, Nikolai Khabibulin and other Oilers who could potentially be on the move before the deadline.

Fitting In

After the Chicago Blackhawks dealt for veteran C Brendan Morrison on Friday, the question now becomes where he will fit in with the team when they get back to work following All-Star weekend. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Marian Hossa is excited to have Morrison on the team and that Morrison will likely centre the Hawks second-line alongside Hossa.
