With the NHL Trade Deadline only weeks away, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and deciding which players can make the biggest difference or hold the greatest value.

Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.

The Great Eight

TSN Insider Darren Dreger says that Sam Gagner's value likely increased after his eight-point outburst Thursday night. However, the Oilers still have not decided how they will proceed with the 22-year old forward, leaving his availability on the trade market still in question. Meanwhile, the Oilers are still likely to move forward Ales Hemsky, according to Dreger.

Looking at Leafs?

The Los Angeles Kings are searching for a top-six forward and have been linked to Hemsky. But Dreger also reported that they have interest in a pair of Toronto Maple Leafs wingers - Nikolai Kulemin and Clarke MacArthur - and that the two teams have been scouting each other's games of late. He did clarify, however, that no deal was imminent on any front for the Maple Leafs.

Forward Thinking

During the first intermission of Friday's NHL on TSN broadcast, Insider Darren Dreger spoke about the Calgary Flames being one of the teams interested in Blue Jackets' centre Jeff Carter. Dreger noted that the biggest hurdle to any deal would be financial, where the Flames already have big money locked up in Jarome Iginla, Jay Bouwmeester, Mike Cammalleri and Miikka Kiprusoff.

NHL analyst Keith Jones said that Sabres' centre Derek Roy, who only has one-year left on his contract after this season, would likely be a better fit for the Flames, not only because Carter has 10 years left on his deal, but because Roy is a pass first player, as opposed to Carter who is a shoot first player.

Kevin Knows Best

While the Winnipeg Jets have remained silent for the most part with regards to their plans with regards to the trade deadline, head coach Claude Noel shared some thoughts with The Globe and Mail's Paul Waldie before the Jets 2-1 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers on Friday.

Noel said that while he's had a few discussions with general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff about personnel, he will not have an active role in player moves.

"I don't really have a real say," Noel told the Globe. "I've learned before just through experience that my place is to coach the team that I have."

Dallas Dilemma

The saga of the 'is he or isn't he on the market' for Dallas Stars forward Brenden Morrow took another turn late Friday when the team placed him on the injured reserve.

According to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, Morrow was bothered by neck pain before playing in back-to-back to games on Wednesday and Thursday. Morrow also acknowledged that he might have surgery in the off-season to fix the issue.

The 33-year-old did state that he has heard about the rumours about his status, but hasn't been asked to waive his no-trade clause.

Help Wanted

Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman is likely looking for help but told the Chicago Sun-Times that there was no help on the horizon. The Sun-Times speculated that Bowman had interest in Anaheim's Francois Beauchemin and Carolina's Tim Gleason, but both have signed extensions with their club rendering them unavailable via trade.

Smytty Staying Put?

Oilers forward Ryan Smyth was surprised to hear his name in trade rumours coming out of New York on Friday. After confirming he had not been approached about a trade by Oilers management, he reiterated his desire to stay in Edmonton.
