The Winnipeg Goldeyes agreed to a contract extension with field manager Rick Forney on Tuesday that will keep him with the Goldeyes through the 2015 season.

"Rick continues to build championship calibre teams and is one of the best field managers in independent baseball. We are pleased that he will remain with the organization for at least the next three seasons," said Goldeyes owner and president Sam Katz.

Forney, 41, led the Goldeyes to the 2012 American Association Championship in his seventh season as the team's field manager. He has a 371-311 record in the 682 regular season games he has managed with the Goldeyes, including a 115-85 record in Winnipeg's first two seasons in the American Association. In 2011, Forney was named the American Association's Manager of the Year after guiding the Goldeyes to the North Division pennant with a record of 60-40.

"Our organization prides itself on the product we offer to our fans on and off the field and Rick is the biggest reason for our continued success on the field," Goldeyes GM Andrew Collier said. "He diligently works to consistently build one of the best independent baseball teams on a yearly basis."

Forney, who also handles all the player procurement duties for the team, became the third field manager in Goldeyes history on November 15, 2005 and has led Winnipeg to the playoffs in six of his seven seasons at the helm. Prior to becoming manager, Forney was the team's pitching coach from 2000-2005 and previous to that pitched for the Goldeyes from 1997-2000.

"I am thrilled to remain with the Goldeyes for the forseeable future. The organization has been a big part of my life for the past 16 years and I look forward to defending our American Association title next season," Forney said.
A 26th round draft choice of the Baltimore Orioles, Forney pitched professionally for 10 seasons. In addition to his time in Winnipeg, Forney spent five year in the Orioles system and half of the 1999 season in the Atlanta Braves organization. He reached Triple-A with the Orioles in 1995.
