The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed last year's American Association Playoff MVP, infielder Amos Ramon for the 2013 season.
Ramon, 29, hit .281 with four home runs and 35 RBI in 71 games with the Goldeyes last season despite missing a month of the season with a separated shoulder. He caught fire in the playoffs by hitting a team-leading .476 with two home runs and nine RBI. His home runs provided the game-winning runs in Game 1 of the Divisional Series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Game 2 of the Championship Series against the Wichita Wingnuts.
"Amos has the ability to be an impact player on anybody's team," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney. "He has battled two injury-filled seasons so far. We're hoping we can get him on the field for 100 games this year and watch more of what we watched during the post-season last year."
Ramon returned to the Goldeyes in 2011, but his season lasted just four innings after he tore his ACL on Opening Day. He made his professional debut with Winnipeg in 2006 out of Louisiana Tech before playing three seasons in the Frontier League and one in the Northern League. He holds a .303 career batting average in 368 games, all of which are at the independent level.
This is the team's first player signing for the 2013 season.
