While the Winnipeg Goldeyes pitching staff was the story in the first two games of the season, Winnipeg's bats roared Sunday night.
Goldeyes shortstop Nate Samson's grand slam in the fourth inning to pace Winnipeg to a 10-5 victory over the Grand Prairie AirHogs before 1,292 fans at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie, Tex.
The win improves Winnipeg's record to 3-0 on the season and gives the Goldeyes a three-game sweep of the AirHogs.
Winnipeg got off to a quick start with two runs in the second inning when Ryan Scoma's single scored Casey Haerther and Luis Alen.
The lead went to 7-0 after Samson's grand slam was followed by a solo home run from Fehlandt Lentini.
After Grand Prairie got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom fifth inning, Winnipeg restored the seven-run lead with a sac fly from Lentini in the top of the sixth.
The AirHogs made it interesting with a run in the bottom of the sixth and three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Goldeyes tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to complete the win.
Samson had four RBI for Winnipeg, while Lentini and Scoma each had two RBI.
On the mound, Goldeyes starter Justin Garcia allowed two runs over six and a third innings to earn the win. He struck out seven AirHogs and issued just one walk.
