Regina snowboarder Mark McMorris is in the running for one of ESPN's ESPY Awards; the Best Male Action Sports Athlete category.

McMorris bumped snowboard rival Shaun White, who has won the award six times including five consecutive years from 2008-2012, out of the nomination for the award this year.

Should McMorris win the category, the 19-year-old would become the first Canadian athlete to do so.

McMorris is the first to ever complete a backside triple cork 1440 and is the current two-time reigning Winter X Games champion in the slopestyle event. He was a gold medal winner in the X Games Aspen Slopestyle event this past season, recording the highest score ever in the event (98.0). He claimed the overall World Snowboard title with the victory.

Voting closes on July 17 at 9pm ET. To vote, click here: http://espn.go.com/espys/2013/?voting=undefined&lang=null
