TURIN, Italy -- Charles Hamelin of Canada won the 1000 metre race at the short track speedskating World Cup event in Turin on Sunday, before helping his team to relay victory for his third gold medal of the weekend.
Hamelin, who triumphed in the 500 on Saturday, edged out Victor An of Russia by 0.021 seconds to maintain his lead in the World Cup standings. Russia's Vladimir Grigorev was third.
In the relay, Canada took control six laps from the finish line to beat Russia and the Netherlands. It moved top of the standings, above the United States, which finished fifth.
In the women's events, World Cup leader Suk-Hee Shim won her third 1000 event this year to top an all-South Korean podium,
South Korea also took its third relay win this season.
