Former NHL defenceman James Wisniewski is close to signing in the KHL, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

Dreger says the deal would be with Barys Astana.

The 32-year-old missed basically the entire 2015-16 season after tearing his ACL in the opener with the Carolina Hurricanes. The team bought out the remainder of his deal (one year) this summer.

Wisniewski has 53 goals and 221 assists over 552 career games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets and Hurricanes.
