Czech Republic finishes fifth at WJC with win over Slovakia

CALGARY - Petr Mrazek made 29 saves as the Czech Republic beat Slovakia 5-2 in the fifth-place game at the world junior hockey championship Wednesday.

Petr Holik, Tomas Filippi, Dominik Uher, Vojtech Mozik and Radek Faksa each scored for the Czechs, who bowed out of medal contention in the quarter-finals against Russia.

Matus Chovan and Milos Bubela scored for Slovakia, which settled for sixth after losing to Finland in the quarters.

Faksa, Holik and Mozik scored in the first period as the Czechs opened a 3-0 lead.

Bubela's second-period goal for Slovakia cut the lead to two, but Uher's goal two minutes later gave the Czechs a 4-1 advantage heading into the third.

Filippi added a power-play goal 2:32 into the third for the Czechs, and Chovan's goal ended the scoring just under four minutes later.
