NEW YORK, N.Y. - Yankees second baseman Stephen Drew has been placed on the paternity list, and New York recalled infielder Jose Pirela from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Pirela was set to start at second base and bat ninth Tuesday night against Philadelphia. He hit .256 with a homer and two doubles in 43 at-bats during his first stint with the Yankees this season from May 6 to June 10.

New York also recalled right-hander Bryan Mitchell from Triple-A and optioned outfielder Ramon Flores to its top farm club. Mitchell arrived for his third stint with the Yankees this season and was available as a potential long man out of the bullpen, manager Joe Girardi said.

A starter in the minors, Mitchell made his season debut Saturday and pitched three innings in a 14-3 win over Detroit for his first major league save.

Drew has been on a home run tear lately. He is batting .190 with 11 homers and 24 RBIs, but has seven hits in his last 15 at-bats.

Flores was 7 for 28 (.250) with the Yankees.
