In 1996, Nike released Ken Griffey Jr.’s first signature sneaker, the Air Griffey Max 1.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the sneaker, the brand is re-releasing an original “Varsity Royal” colourway of the shoe.

The sneaker features a blue upper and volt green accents as a reference to Griffey’s Seattle Mariners. Nike previously released the “Fresh Water” OG colourway of the sneaker in February.

The Air Griffey Max 1, with its signature air bubble design, is one of the most iconic sneakers of the 1990s, and especially noteworthy for being the first signature sneaker designed for a baseball player.

The “Varsity Royal” Air Griffey Max 1 released on May 28 and retails for US$170.
