TaylorMade has unveiled a new club that pays homage to one of its more innovative creations that first came out in 2000. The 300 series line of clubs has been reborn with the 300 Mini Driver.

The new club, which has some design cues and aesthetics from the original line, is actually 307 ccs in head size and relies on advanced multi-material construction to give it a combination of low centre of gravity and high moment of inertia. The result is a club that can be played off the tee and off the deck.

“It’s been 20 years since we last made a metalwood this size,” said Tomo Bystedt head of product creation for TaylorMade. “It was only natural to call it the 300 Mini driver to acknowledge what the 300 Series meant to our brand and the game.”

When used off the tee, the 300 Mini driver gives high launch and low spin. The titanium face and the company’s Thru-Slot pocket combine to create good ball speed. The new club also features TaylorMade’s Twist Face, which helps correct off-centre hits. The club comes in lofts of 11.5 and 13.5 and with the Mitsubishi MiDR Proto as a stock shaft offering. Custom shaft options are available.

The smaller head also makes it perfect for those who want to give it a rip from the fairway, gaining extra distance on those second shots.

The 300 Mini has been tested by a number of TaylorMade’s top players, including Dustin Johnson, who are looking at possibly adding it to the bag for the Open Championship.

It’s available in Canada starting July 15 at a suggested price of $529.99
