TALLINN, Estonia — Canadian ice dancers claimed two of the three podium positions at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships on Sunday.

Natalie D’Alessandro and Bruce Waddell of Toronto won ilver, while Nadiia Bashynska and Peter Beaumont of Ajax, Ont. claimed the bronze medal to mark the first time ever Canada has won two medals in the same event at a world juniors.

The American duo of Oona Brown and Gage Brown earned the gold medal with 170.25 points. D’Alessandro and Waddell scored 162.56 points while Bashynska and Beaumont tallied 157.64.

The win capped a very successful season for D’Alessandro and Waddell, who claimed silver last week in Italy at the Egna Dance Trophy and gold in January at the 2022 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in Ottawa.

In addition to their medal on Sunday, Bashynska and Beaumont took silver at nationals and bronze at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Linz, Austria.

In the women's competition, Isabeau Levito of the U.S. won gold with Jia Shin of South Korea second and Lindsay Thorngren of the U.S. third.

Lia Pereira of Milton, Ont., was top Canadian, finishing 14th, and Justine Miclette of Chambly, Que., was 21st.

Canada ended the world juniors with three medals.

On Friday, Brooke McIntosh of Toronto and Benjamin Mimar of Terrebonne, Que., captured bronze in the pairs competition.
