SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The San Francisco 49ers have placed running back Carlos Hyde on season-ending injured reserve with a stress fracture in his left foot that has kept him out the past five games.

San Francisco announced the expected move Saturday, when the team also promoted tight end Brian Leonhardt to the active roster from the practice squad.

Hyde, a second-round draft pick in 2014 out of Ohio State, didn't travel to Cleveland this weekend or Chicago last week. The Niners (4-8) will face the Browns (2-10) on Sunday.

He finished with 115 carries for 470 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.
