Carlos Hyde’s campaign to replace Frank Gore in the San Francisco 49ers backfield isn’t getting off to a great start.

Hyde, who is expected to start the season as the 49ers running back, will start training camp on the non-football injury list.

Hyde was absent from 49ers OTAs this off-season with what was believed to be a minor calf injury.

A former second round draft pick, Hyde had 333 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season.

Also placed on the NFI list for  the 49ers were LB Aaron Lynch, RT Trent Brown, and WR DeAndre Smelter, while C Daniel Kilgore will start camp on the PUP list.
