ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Los Angeles Angels have signed right-hander Jeremy McBryde to a major league contract.

The Angels designated outfielder Roger Kieschnick for assignment Friday to make room on their 40-man roster.

The 27-year-old McBryde has never pitched in the big leagues, but he went 3-4 with a 2.22 ERA and 17 saves for Oakland's Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento last season. He spent his first seven professional seasons in the San Diego Padres' organization.

McBryde excelled last season against right-handed hitters, who batted .154 with 46 strikeouts against him.

His one-year deal is for the minimum salary, which will be $500,000 plus a cost-of-living adjustment to be determined Nov. 20, likely to be $9,000 to $10,000.
