SAN DIEGO - Shortstop Jed Lowrie was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Houston Astros on Tuesday with a torn ligament in his right thumb.

Lowrie was injured Monday night while sliding into home plate in the eighth inning of the Astros' 9-4 win.

Lowrie, who returned to Houston on Tuesday for an MRI, is hitting .300 with four home runs and 10 RBIs.

Infielder Jonathan Villar was recalled from Triple-A Fresno to replace Lowrie on the roster.
