The Colorado Avalanche signed defenceman Brad Stuart to a two-year contract extension on Monday.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger the deal is worth $7.2 million, with an annual average value of $3.6 million.

Stuart scored three goals and 11 points in 61 games with the San Jose Sharks in 2013-14.

The Avalanche acquired Stuart from the Sharks on July 1 in exchange for a 2016 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick.

Stuart was entering the final year of the three-year, $10.8 million contract he signed with the Sharks prior to the 2012-13 season.

The 34-year-old has scored 77 goals and 322 points in 985 career NHL games.

Stuart was selected third overall in 1998 NHL Draft by the Sharks.
