The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenceman Erik Johnson to a seven-year, $42 million contract extension. The team announced the deal, which includes a limited no trade clause according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Tuesday night.

Johnson, 27, has played 456 career NHL games with the Avalanche and St. Louis Blues, scoring 48 goals and tallying 193 points with 301 penalty minutes.

In 47 games with the Avalanche last season, Johnson scored 12 goals and had 23 points.

The Avalanche acquired Johnson in a 2011 trade along with forward Jay McClement and a first-round pick (Duncan Siemens) for defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk, forward Chris Stewart and a second-round pick (Ty Rattie).
