ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has initially avoided going on the disabled list for the third time this season because of a troublesome left hamstring.

Beltre was out of the lineup Tuesday, a night after the active career hits leader re-aggravated the hamstring injury that has already put him on the DL twice this year. He got hurt when scoring from second base on a bloop single to left-centre field.

"We're going to give him a couple of days, see how he feels," manager Jeff Banister said before the finale of a quick two-game set against Arizona.

The Rangers have a day off before opening a four-game series at home against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, when the 39-year-old Beltre will be revaluated again. Beltre wasn't seen in the clubhouse when it was open to reporters before Tuesday's game.

"I don't get any indication that it's going to be anything long-term at this point," Banister said. "But again, still reserve the right to let it kind of settle down for a couple of days and see where we're at after that."

Beltre got hurt in the eighth inning of a 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Monday night. Beltre, who has 3,137 career hits, appeared to pull up a bit after rounding third base.

This is the last year of Beltre's contract with the Rangers, though he and the team haven't ruled out a return in 2019 for a 22nd big league season. This is his eighth season in Texas, where he appeared in his only World Series in 2011.

The last-place Rangers were open before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline about the possibility of Beltre being traded to a contending team for the shot at finally winning a World Series, but no deal materialized. The possibility remained that he could get dealt in August, but another hamstring issue could affect that.

Beltre is hitting .278 with seven homers and 41 RBIs in 86 games this season. The four-time All-Star is a .286 hitter with 469 homers in 2,900 career games.

After missing 12 games while on the disabled list from April 25-May 8, Beltre was back only five games before returning to the DL on May 14 and missing 16 more games. Beltre missed 61 games last season for two DL stints, first for right calf tightness and then the left hamstring late in the season.

"It doesn't matter if you're 28 or 38, hamstrings are such that once you've done them once, they can be recurring," Banister said. "It seems like he's managed it very well to this point. It's one of those situations, he got a great read last night, he was feeling good, and came around third base, and felt a little bit. So no real rhyme or reason."
