DENVER - A solid start to the day by the San Francisco Giants gave way to a rough finish.

Charlie Blackmon lined a two-out single in the ninth inning off reliever Sergio Romo, helping the Colorado Rockies beat San Francisco 10-9 on Monday and stop the Giants' six-game win streak.

Earlier, the Giants broke away from a tie and beat Colorado 4-2 in a game that resumed after it was suspended May 22 in the sixth inning because of rain.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Giants blew a five-run lead and then rallied against Rockies closer LaTroy Hawkins (3-2) from two runs down in the ninth to tie it. But in the bottom half, Mike McKenry led off with a single up the middle off Romo (5-4). McKenry scored from third when Blackmon's hit fell near the right-field line.

"Hard-fought game, tough game," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "That's one that you see here in this ballpark. In the sixth inning, we just couldn't stop it, a four-run inning there killed us. The guys fought back. What a job they did there in the ninth. Couldn't stop'em, though."

Hunter Pence hit a three-run homer for the Giants. Pence also came up big hours earlier, when his tiebreaking double in the eighth led the Giants in the resumption.

Hawkins struggled in the ninth, giving up an RBI single to Buster Posey and another to Pablo Sandoval that tied the game.

It set the stage for Blackmon, who came through with the Rockies' seventh walk-off hit of the season. He had been 0 for 5 in the game before the hit.

Trailing 7-2 in the sixth, the Rockies scored four runs off starter Tim Hudson, who was denied in his bid for his first career victory at Coors Field.

"We felt like we had the game in hand, but weird things have happened here, that's for sure," Hudson said. "It's just a crazy place to play. They had some things go their way during a couple of those innings to set up some scoring opportunities for them and they took advantage. It really was nothing more than that."

Colorado tied the game in the seventh on Josh Rutledge's run-scoring single off reliever Jean Machi.

Pinch-hitter Ben Paulsen, recalled from Triple-A earlier in the day, gave the Rockies a 9-7 lead with a two-run homer.

Brandon Crawford broke out of a slump with a pair of RBI singles and a run-scoring double. Pence extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his homer in the first.

The earlier game of the day restarted tied at 2 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and a runner on first. Jeremy Affeldt (4-2) struck out Rutledge to end the inning.

Pence, who homered in the fourth inning on May 22, doubled home Andrew Susac.

Christian Friedrich (0-4) took the loss.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Giants: OF Michael Morse experienced soreness on his left side in batting practice before the first game. He's scheduled to undergo a precautionary MRI on Tuesday and is considered day to day.

Rockies: LHP Boone Logan (left elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list, ending his season. The 30-year-old Logan was 2-3 with a 6.84 ERA.

UP NEXT

Giants: RHP Yusmeiro Petit (4-3, 3.44 ERA) will make his eighth start of the season on Tuesday. He beat the Rockies 4-1 last Thursday.

Rockies: RHP Jordan Lyles is making a second straight start against the Giants. He surrendered one run in six innings during a no-decision last week.

MORE CALL-UPS

Among the players the Giants are expected to bring up from Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday is Bruce Bochy's son, right-hander Brett Bochy. The team also will transfer INF Marco Scutaro (back) and RHP Matt Cain (elbow) to the 60-day DL.

STRANGE HAPPENINGS

There were several oddities in the game resumed from May 22 because of the long layoff:

— Susac's single in the eighth will now show up as his first hit in the majors, at least in the chronology of this season's box scores. Until Monday, his first hit was listed as July 30, a few days after he was promoted from Triple-A.

— Tyler Colvin and Brandon Hicks, who both started that game in May for the Giant, were later designated for assignment.

— The Rockies have four players appearing in the final box now on the DL — shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, outfielder Michael Cuddyer, catcher Wilin Rosario and righty Tommy Kahnle.
