New York, NY - The Milwaukee Brewers announced Friday that pitcher Will Smith's suspension for having a foreign substance on his arm on May 21 was reduced from eight games to six following his appeal.

Smith was ejected in the seventh inning of the Brewers' eventual 10-1 loss at Atlanta for having what he called a mix of sunscreen and rosin on his arm.

The left-hander promptly hit Pedro Ciriaco with a pitch after coming on for starter Matt Garza in the seventh with one out and men on the corners. The umpires, alerted by Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, approached Smith on the mound. Crew chief Jim Joyce felt Smith's forearm and signaled for him to leave the game.

Smith has compiled a 1-0 record with a 2.84 earned run average in 19 games this season, his second with the Brewers.

New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda received a 10-game suspension last year for having pine tar on his neck during a game against the Red Sox.
