BUFFALO, N.Y. - Billy Bridges is taking Canada to the world sledge hockey final.

Bridges scored twice in the second period and added an assist in the third to power Canada to a 3-2 win over Russia on Friday in the semifinal of the world sledge hockey championship.

"We got off to a slow start, Russia was up 1-0 on us, but Billy Bridges scored a goal to tie it up and that gave us some energy and some confidence in the second and third period," said Canadian head coach Ken Babey. "We had a good second period, scored that goal and then we got going and battled through."

Bridges has nine goals in the past four games and leads the tournament with 13 points.

"I'm impressed with Billy's approach to the game in terms of his teammanship," said Babey, who is coaching Bridges for the first time. "He's working very hard at both ends of the ice. He's taking all our major faceoffs.

"He's just doing an excellent job leading this team."

Canada will face the United States in the event's final on Sunday.

It’s the fourth time the Canadians have advanced to the final at worlds. It won the gold medal in each of its three previous appearances (2000, 2008, 2013).

Adam Dixon assisted on Bridges's second goal and then had the eventual winner for Canada early in the third period. Corbin Watson made 10 saves for the win in net.

Ilia Volkov and Vasilii Varlakov both scored on the power play for Russia. Evgenii Plotnikov stopped nine shots.
