BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins have signed veteran forward Simon Gagne to a one-year contract worth US$600,000.

Gagne had been practising with the Bruins after attending the team's training camp on a tryout basis. He had a goal and an assist in five pre-season games.

The 34-year-old last played in the 2012-13 season, when he split time between Los Angeles and Philadelphia and had five goals and 11 assists in 38 games.

Gagne, a two-time all-star, last played a full season in 2008-09, scoring 34 goals and adding 40 assists in 79 games with the Flyers. He has battled nagging groin injuries through his career and suffered a serious concussion in the 2007-08 season.

Gagne was drafted by Philadelphia in the first round, 22nd overall, of the 1998 NHL draft.

He has 288 goals and 309 assists in 799 games over 13 seasons with the Flyers, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles.

In the post-season, Gagne has 37 goals and 22 assists in 109 games and won a Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2012.

The native of Sainte-Foy, Que., was part of Canada's gold-medal team at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. He also helped Canada win the 2004 World Cup of Hockey title.

The Bruins also waived forward Bobby Robins for purpose of assignment and sent forward Jordan Caron to Providence of the American Hockey League.
